About These tree grow wild in certian areas of the southwest. I don't know why they don't grow everywhere. Driving along northwest of Phoenix you will drive through an area of these in the desert. They must live at certian altitudes like the sagurao cactus does. I know there is a fence in the scene.

I saw my first Joshua tree this past summer in California. They are an unusual looking tree. Lovely colors in the background sky, and nice shot of the Joshua.

Ann, thanks so much for your very nice comment and the real history about this wonderful tree. I do see a few of them planted in yards here in Sun City West. I would imagine that they come from a nursery and we are close enough to their natural habitat that they will survive.
This picture was taken between Wickenburg and Kingman Az on highway 60..
Thanks, Don.

WOW Don, this is a great example of the Joshua Tree. A little more on the Tree itself is the fact that they only grow in 2 places in the world and that is the Mojave Desert and Saudi Arabia I believe is the other. All the years I spent in the Mojave Desert I never got around to taking any good shots of a Joshua Tree although I have them in backgrounds of some photos. This is such a great specimen.

Oh and another little tidbit....many people have tried to replant this tree but it must be positioned in the exact same direction to the sun as where it was removed from and even then chances of it surviving the move are slim. They are very slow growing also. I guess it sounds like I studied the tree. In actual fact I had quite a fascination for them and did learn as much as I could about them as they are so unique. Into my faves this one goes Don. Thanks for posting this interesting image.

Cheers - Ann :)

Very nice composition with this Joshua, Don.
Pretty colors, nice composition also.

I really didn't notice the fence until I read your 'about'!

Great colour and detail here, Don! Interesting about, too. The fence doesn't detract at all.

A great shot of the Joshua tree, Don. Certainly different scenery than your native Nebraska. Great color and texture... and I don't see the fence :-) Larry
