WOW this is very refreshing James. A step away from the usual Ansel Adams wannabes. It's like a charcoal drawing. A diffused lighting effect almost haze-like with the sun that works a treat. It's wonderful.
Cheers - Ann :)

Thank you Douglas. I agree that this image definately looks different than most shots. It was taken right before sunset on a slightly hazy day, and the pastel look in the image reflects reality. The blacks are black, but they make up a very small part of the image which is dominated by mid tones.
I've taken a very quick look at your portfolio, and that helped me understand you comment. I'll return to spend more time with it and leave some comments.

Dear James,
Not exactly in the 'Zone' I would say but who has to be? While I strive earnestly to make blacks black, whites white, and to include various shades and tones of grey you just sit back and 'calmly' photograph icons of Yosemite in a relaxed atmosphere and from angles which I haven't seen.
Very well done and Best of Regards!
P.S. You have quite an extensive portfolio which I would like to delve into much more later if you don't mind and your Bio is greatly understandable ...

Awesome shot James, Dear James, what a privilege to be in Yosemite at sunset. You really capture the magnificence of Half Dome The colors and tones are magic and I can even feel the texture of the granite rock. Thanks for posting this wonderful image. Take care. Yamil

without doubt, the most impressive piece of rock I've ever seen - ans well captured here. you've got all the granite detail in there, a very strange sight, peculiar to Yosemite.
