The white background makes the main subject stands out. And obviously the compositon is perfect! The red tomatoes, the green branches, and the shadow really pleasing to me. The two empty branches on the right also suggest that two tomatoes are missing, making the actual number of tomatoes to 5 tomatoes. 3 & 5, such magic numbers. To wrap up, a very interesting image to me...

Hi Angelo, Very clean shot, leaving me no room to nitpick about...:) I like the missing tomato on the right, it creats a very strong element in its absence, and finishes the composition nicely. Very solid shot.

Ciao Angelo,
thank you for commenting my picture and giving me the opportunity to know your portfolio full of interesting captivating pictures.
I choose this one because I find it very italian in design, style and substances( I love ciliegino tomato).
The background only apparently empty, and position of tomatoes makes this picture extordinary and captivating.
Cheers Francesco

P.J. I think the frame is necessary to provide a boundary for the eyes, showing the relationship betwen the fruit and the white space.
I've tried a few shots without a frame, but I didn't think this one was suited to that.
Thanks for the sugestion, all the same. It's good to be challenged to think again about decisions. Feel free to try editing this for a no-border look if you wish.

This is a really simple set-up, Carolyn.
I have a table adjacent to some sliding glass doors. The pic is lit by the soft diffused light coming through the glass. I placed some A4 white paper, propped up at the back so that it curves upwards and forms what is called an "infinity curve": the paper gently curves upwards and makes it look like everything is white.
The window was on the right, and I placed a small Lastolite reflector on the left, to really soften the shadows.
That's it!
A bit of PS levels was used to make sure the background was totally white, and some gentle airbrushing on a few blemished spots. Also, the original shot was a fairly tight and centered composition. The canvas was resized in Photoshop to give the corner placement.

Randy,
I don't mind at all. Thanks for that.
I guess I over-sharpened. I wanted the sharpening to bring out the tiny yellow dot details on the tomatoes' skin.

You have been doing some great detail, isolating work. I really like this image of everyday(as Kevin said,I have a hanging tomato basket i pick from everyday) object isolated and displayed on prestine white background, and importantly nice work with the delicate shadows. The only thing noticabe to me that might be considered(and it is slight)is a bit of halo between the tomatoes and shadows. Hoping that you don't mind I attached section with halos on left half removed.
