About Another from the series from the Golden Excursion... although I brought along some props for the dogs to play with, one of the favourites was an old tire.
Go figure! Comments welcomed.

Just an update... this image made it into the November issue of PhotoLife, a Canadian based magazine... my first publication! Very exciting!
Thanks to everyone who commented... I'm off again today to take more puppy shots.
Cheers and Happy Holidays!

Thanks Jim! I wanted to keep the frame as close as "calendar format" as possible to let people see what it would look like and I think that cropping the top (although a really good idea for prints!) would alter the ratio a little too much.
I went out again this past weekend on Puppy Excursion #2 so keep an eye out for more cute pup shots!

Holy cow that is a cute picture. I'm not sure the space above the tire really adds anything. I'd consider cropping it.

This is so sweet I love how he is framed but the white in the tyre. Exhausted little chap it seems.

Kim,
I think this is my favorite of the series, he looks so innocent sitting there. Like someone else said, kids like the box better then the toy in the box. I like the version with the white strip, it's not too distracting for me.

Kim, This is an adorable photo of this cute little pup. Nice title, as well. -- Debby

Thanks so much, Kurt... I'm still waffling on which I like better... both have pros for me... but it's always great to have suggestions to try out.
Cheers

I like the one after the PS work. The pup gets now the attention he disserves.

Well doen

Oh....so gorgeous. Just like kids....the box is better than the toy.

Thankyou so much Kim for your wonderful comment on my image.

I don't mind that bright circle, in fact, I prefer the version with it. Very interesting-looking bokeh in the background. Definitely a candidate for your calendar :-)

Thanks for the comment Mary-Sue... glad to have some opinions on the reflective strip.
I unfortunately couldn't get a deeper DOF on this, as it was 8:30 in the morning, in shade, with 100 ISO film... I was already at 1/60 and was too afriad to drop down to 1/30.
Next time I go out though I will aim for a high overcast day and later in the day... that way I shouldn't have a problem with lack of light.
(I'll let you know when my calendar comes out! *hahahaha*)
Thanks again for all your help... this is a nice stepping stone to next time as I'm learning so much and getting ideas from everyone.

More cute puppy shots!

Although I wouldn't have thought of it myself, I agree with Kurt that the reflective strip competes for visual attention. The PS'd version works better for me.

Did you get any other shots of this cutie with a wider DOF? I kinda wish the entire puppy was in focus, not just his head.

I predict you will be able to make a very marketable calendar just on these puppy images alone!

Thanks Kurt... I tried a quick PS fix to see which I like better, but I'm not sure. I thought that I would post it here to see what others think... your opinion would be appreciated.
This was my 1 minute attempt at a fix...if more people like it I will do a proper one.
Thanks again

Very cute and a great composition, I love the way the pup has it's paw up on the tire as if sending a greetin. Alison

Verry cute. Nice colors and detail in the fur around the head.

For me, the reflective strip is fighting for the attention to. Maybe adjust/remove the strip with PS.

Kim,
puppy-shots always work as this image does. When seeing an image like this I always would like to pick them up.
Great shot and thanks for sharing.

Hi. What cute pup. Excellent prop too. I don't care much for the blurry effect at the top of the foto but its still quite an adorable capture.
