This image is taken from a series I did revisiting the coastal community of Te Puru where I spent my summers growing up as a child.
My intention for this series was not to document Te Puru as it is now but to somehow photograph my memories and recollections of Te Puru as a child. I wanted the images to appear hazy and clouded a kind of representation of memory. I experimented with pinhole cameras, toy camera's but could never quite achieve the feel that I was after. I eventually decide to photograph with my standard camera but shot the image with the lens wrapped in a plastic bag to my surprise it gave me the type of image I was striving to attain. This image shows a seaside bach where a childhood friend used to holiday. Where he is now I have no idea.
Thanks for your comments. Yeah I have tried the hole in the bady cap trick. It was nice but there was something about the crusty old plastic bag effect that I liked. Ha for expensive optics eh.
Very interesting Photo! Your experimentation to find a way to express the echos of your past is fascinating! The plastic bag technique is a great solution. Have you discovered the pinhole camera-body cap to turn your slr into a pinhole camera? ? Hey, Thanks for your comments to my recent photos - really appreciate hearing from you! David
