Hey Steve,
Well I like the lens allot and it takes great pictures but I still seem to keep leaving the house with the 18-55mm kit lens, the 28 is not wide enough for me .. It?s like having a 45mm film lens.
Last week I splurged and the 28-105 has been replaced with the new EFS 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM. All I can say is I?m loving it.... and the Image Stabilizer is all that... This is the perfect street lens.
Now I just take the 17-85 IS and 75-300 IS and I'm good to go. Covered from 17-300mm
Plus the new lens was made for Digital and only works with the Digital Rebel, Rebel XT and 20D

Hi Stu, Just realised you have been using this lens (Fred Miranda review site !!).
I've taken the plunge and got a 20D with the same lens, I wonder what comments you had (best aperture for sharpness etc)
Oh ... love the piccie and had commented last November lol

Thanks Steve ... I also thought the trees were a bit dark but felt the same as you on the road standing out like it does ... I got a new toy but I don't get it till Tuesday ... It's only a new camera phone but I can't wait to get it, even though the quality will be nothing like my Canon's I still want to play with it ... I guess It must be a guy thing .... arararaahhoo

This looks super Stuart, the toning and composition are both excellent. The main thing in the picture is the road, if the trees were not so dark I think road would not stand out as strong as it does :-)
Sometimes I think we are our own worst critics Stuart :-)
Personally, I think this looks great !

This is a wonderful shot Stuart. I like the stark contrast between the road and the trees on the sides. I always try to find something that will give me the same contrsting feel. I was better at it with B&W film than I am with digital. still learning the digital side of it. BTW have you seen the new G6 canon. With 7.1 megs?

Thank you Verena, I curently own PS 7 but I find it much eiser to use Elements 2.0 that came with my camera. I just need to get off my butt and learn it ... thanks again for you input. I heard that Elements 3.0 was just released this month but I'm sure that PS 7 & CS will still be the vetter versions to use.

Hi Stuart,
because of the better way to convert into b&w I bought a higher version of PS, I'm working with 6.0, this is the lowest version with the function channelmixer, this is a very good way of converting.
I bought it in ebay for a really low many, approx. 40 Euro, and it is possible to later upgrade it to Photoshop CS, the actual version.
You never know what comes next, behind the corner...

There are severa; ways I do it, though I"m not sure they are the correct way.. one of course, you can simply go to mode and convert to grayscale. Usually if I di th is I have to increase the contrast some. Another way, to simply fo to the one that says remove color. The thing I do most, is to go Enhance, the down to hue, saturation, etc. I change the hue to more of what tones I would like, then desaturate intil all color gone, sometimes leave just a little. You can then add more contrast also, or some other effect.

Nice perspective and B&W works here. If you have Photoshop, it has many macro inbuilt for B&W and Sepia

Thanks Rebecca, I'm going to keep on trying. I have a few more shots I want to convert so I will work on those during the week. I'm using PS Elements 2.0 ... what are you using to convert yours to B&W.
