Bellissima!

Infrastructure and composition of startling expression. Well expression.

Ciao Aira,

I think you deserve a lot of congratulations on this one. Most people would have seen the scaffolding and turned away in disappointment, cursing the fact that it has "spoiled the picture".

You, on the other hand, show the way, and turned what seemed like a jumble into an excellend study in lines. Even down to the presence of people looking at the structure, giving the image a better sense of scale and a psychological leading line.

If I was asked to take a picture of this scene, I probably would have gone close in, try to make an abstract. But I have now got the message: get some people in!

The one thing that I think loses points here is the contrast. To my taste, there is too much of it. The spectators are too dark, and the highlights are blown, and that distracts a bit from all the shapes formed by the structures.

Thanks!

The contrast between the cylindrical and the scaffolding's cubes and the way the column is embedded in the foreground is great, isn't it. It's all both grand and fragile. The two observers on the viewing platform are very well positioned as well, interplaying with the column (I thought, even if they are marvelling at the scaffolding as well) in a very interesting way.

Very interesting composition. Human figures are a very essential element of the composition.
One suggestion for all your vertical photos. I think they are very high and do not fit in the browser. You have to scroll up and down, which makes it difficult to perceive it. My screen resolution is 1152x864 and it still doesn't fit.
Regards - Armen

The image shows real confusion to me. Such a contrast to the usual simplified travel shots of Europe. Tech excellent print toooo .....J

ps
bella foto (come sempre)

Verena,

there are a lot of straight lines, indeed...against all schemes, rules (and common sense, maybe) my intention was to get an image which could mislead the eye, to bounce back and forth instead with no clear vanishing point: that really represented my confused and exhausted state of mind at that very moment. furthermore, I deliberately included the two people who, to me at least, were totally bewildered in front of such a complexe view to enhance that.

whether I managed to express that is another issue, though...;)
