Love this image - everything is suitably faded. Reminds me of Schindler's List with the girl in the red coat. Always an effective photographic trick up your sleeve..

Hi John.... I looked at this image last night but didnt have time to comment. At first I thought you had hand colored the flag but looking closer I didnt think so and wondered how you had done it. This morning I see your explanation *smile* I really like what you have done here...you have created a very nice image....Maggie

Thanks y'all. This photo was a mess. Poorly printed originally, it had a strong yellow cast to it. Nice to be able to make something out of it.
Dave; yes this was done electronically in Paint Shop Pro. I scanned the original in colour (at 600 dpi - thanks Artie for the suggestion - much more control)
As this photo seemed to be more about texture and because I didn't find the colour really helped the image much (except for the flag) I saved it in colour, then made a duplicate greyscale version. After increasing the # of colors of the new image from 256 to 16 million, I used a selection tool to cut the flag out of my old colour version and pasted that as a seperate layer on the image that you see above. I then merged the layers and exported the image as a jpeg. The other thing I did was select the model's cuff just above her hand. That area was totally blown out and needed some serious darkening down. Glad you liked it.

I like this image. I like the angles, the close cropping, and the slightly long lens. But I especially like the fact that all the surrounding detail is in black and white, even the background grass. Was this done electronically?
