Beautiful job painting this... it feels like a cold October morning, and the light colouring on the heron pulls my attention there right away. What a beautiful reflection as well.. you nailed this one! Glad to see you're posting again,John. It nice to dive into such a creative portfolio!

The heron brings, both with it colours and its movement, a tension into a static composition. The white ice shield is an alternative for our eyes to stop upon.
The light, airy, atmospher, amplified by the blurry background (maybe a little overwork here, especially around the top of the three in the UL), adds an onoric touch. Nice effect.
