I had no idea that there were macro lens that screw on to the lensbaby. Do you get these as attachments to the lensbaby? From the lensbaby people? I'm equally as dumb. The lensbaby is not easy to use. I tried 1 time and now it is sitting in it's box.

Thanks Michael!
yeah, i saw the new lensbaby..that's what drove me to try this one out before I bought it. it's a bit more coin than the 2.0, but for what you get... not bad! I hear the new one has even better optics..and that's good.
wow... narabia Monika Kozlows's work is stunning! you were so right! Her compositions and consistant tones are amazing!
i'm off to LA for the premiere of my movie :) catch ya later!

Check out the latest version, should help - search on lensbaby. The latest allows you to thread for tweaks. Never used the lensbaby but always wanted to.
By the way, I've been trying to shoot flower macros recently and now you have upset me. Really. I've been busting it with my old Nikkor MF macro lens and you have to post these great shots. Argh.
Enough of that. I have to try some more floral shots. While you are at it stop by and check out a great photographer by the name of narabia Monika Kozlows. Killa mad props to her and to you for getting me up in the morning thinking of this type of photography.

howdy Ron..
maybe i'm confused on lens math, or zoom/magnification.. if you've got the macro/zoom lenses... one is a 10x, and the other is a 4x...and you screw on to the other, and screw both onto the lensbaby... 40x magnification?
i'm a dumba$$ when it comes to this stuff. :)

howdy Ron..
yeah, if i'm not shooting something 1 mile away with the new lens on a sunny day, then i'm in the kitchen with bounce cards on an overcast day with a lensbaby at 40x zoom.... enjoying myself.
thanks so much for the kind comments!
cheers, and hope all is well!

Real interesting lens. The dof is so minimal. Looks like you are getting the hang of it. Or at least enjoying yourself. Regards Ron.

Hi Robin,
Thank you so much for the comments! Looking at your portfolio, I can see you and I both have the same addiction to macro. it's the most involved and intimate that i can get with my camera and a subject. It takes great patience...and that's something that the lensbaby demands. I find myself lost in the moment, in getting the sweet spot of focus just right, and it's like watching a slow motion time laps in my viewfinder as I bend and pull with my fingers, while gripping the camera. It's a fine balance.
I hope that your family looks at your work, and knows how much you want a lensbaby! Have a look at the new 3G that they have out..it has locks on the lens, so you don't need to massage the lens, and that will gove you the stability to use your tripod :)
good luck, and thanks again!
cheers, -Joel

Emgy,
thank you very much! Go pick a lensbaby up, or borrow one...it's worth it, without a heavy lens investment.
best regards, -joel

Liz,
Thank you very much for your comments!
I think you'll find your space with a lensbaby. Looking at your portfolio, I think it will add an old world charm to your b/w portraits. It's not the most forgiving lens, but like coal, you pressure it enough, you'll get a diamond!
good luck, and looking fwd to seeing your work with it!
very nice porfolio btw!
cheers, -joel

Howdy Paul,
yeah, I saw that new one! It looks like head gear for someome that broke their neck ;) ...pretty cool. Since i'm borrowing this one, I may have to pop for the new one, cause gosh darn it.. I need my tripod for these macro shot, and who am I kidding...I love macro.
thanks so much for the comments, and lookin up the new lensbaby, and passing on the link...I didn't want my photos to stand as an add for the thing! ;) cheers! -Joel

Cool shot, Joel. I saw in the latest issue of NAPP that they've now released LensBaby 3G, which has screw-guides along the side of the lens, so you can lock the lens into any position. That would be exactly what you need for extremely shallow DOF shots like this. They've got pictures at www.lensbabies.com
This is a very cool shot. Thanks for your patience, Joel; it paid off!

Hi Joel...So glad you had the chance to play and posted your thoughts about this lens. I have been fascinated by the Lensbaby for a while but, had no idea of the challenge in shooting with one...I thank you for making it known to me! I'll still ask Santa to bring one for Christmas but, now I know I will need extra patience to get used to it...well, providing I can be good and Santa puts one under my tree!
Each of your three posts are different from the other and all beautiful...I simply love minimal dof.
Thanks again...take care...Robin

Yes, I like the effect too! Interesting image. Beautiful and creative. I'm kind of tempted in buying one of those lenses to and give it a try myself. Well done! Emgy

It makes for very interesting viewing, and sounds like it was a real challenge. I have often wondered how good they are to work with. This is beautiful work and the muted colour is lovely(I will have to give it a go, and see how long my patience lasts) :)
