Yummy was the first thing that sprung to mind ) I know, I'm a strange bird. But the image is sooo beautifully creamy. Funny Jim mentioning the softness as I had thought it your intention. Certainly adds a dreamy/surreal quality to the whole scene. If this is a technical error, then it's one worth repeating!

Thanks for your comment on "My Country". Now you have me singing it, only, the version I'm more familiar with goes: "I still call Australia, Rome..." ))))))

Cheers

That's an interesting thought Steve and one I didn't consider. It was very difficult to get a clear shot of this falls because of the surrounding trees and if I cropped out the yellow fall coloured tree it would make it very long and narrow in size I think. I will give it a try on my computer and see how I like it though. I'm always willing to try on something new for size.

Thanks for dropping by and for your suggestion and comment.

Cheers - Ann

It's a beautiful photo, Ann. My only comment about how you might look at it differently is that, in my mind, there are two photos here, side by side: one of the falls and one of the tree. They parallel each other in verticality, but I don't think that either one particularly enhances the other. Maybe it's that the texture of the tree nad the texture of the falls is so different. Perhaps you could crop the photo to the right of the vertical midline and let it be about a waterfall alone. The movement of the water has the wonderful feel of a diaphanous silk scarf draped over the landscape. It's a beautiful capture.
Best regards,
Steve

Hiya sweetie....today's critique has come from a long time ago but at least it has you on the front page where you belong. I'm at work (4.20am our time) and the internet programme on my Mac is rubbish. I can't see the comments and I can't get the large size shots on screen. I commented on this one, 'cos I can see my name listed but I haven't a clue what I wrote. Love your new post but I will comment on it when I get home and see it full size in all it's majesty. Have a big hug from me to be going on with and I'll 'see' you later today (tomorrow for you) Have a peaceful sleep..Best wishes to you sweet Ann....Ray

Thanks Gayle for your encouraging words of support. It's taken me a lot of practice but I'm finally getting a handle on these waterfalls. I enjoy the challenge.

Poor old keyboard is going to have to get put away until I can catch up with comments again. I like to play old classic rock like Stairway to Heaven, Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald, Whiter Shade of Pale and other similar classics along with some Beatles, Cat Stevens songs and I compose a few of my own tunes just for fun. Just another hobby when I get time for it.

Thanks for dropping by. I'll catch up with your new posts as time allows.

Cheers - Ann

Thanks Ina, I have selectively sharpened before but I didn't even think about it with this iamge until Jim pointed out that the image looked soft and after looking more carefully now I'm thinking yes I guess I could have selectively sharpened just the bridge and still kept the rest soft. I guess I didn't look that closely at the image before posting it. This image pretty much was straight out of the camera this way apart from a slight bump in contrast and that was it. I didn't even crop it.

I guess you lot are really keeping me on my toes. Thanks again.

Hi Ina,

Thanks for dropping by and for your great comments. I hadn't posted any new photos cause I was indulging in another neglected hobby, that being playing the keyboard, so I was taking a break from Usefilm then today I received an email from someone congratulating me for being on the front page. I figured OK, great, seeing as I'm on the front page for a waterfall shot I guess I'll post another waterfall shot so now I have a ton of comments to catch up on as well as my replies. Looks like my poor old keyboard will be taking a sabatical until I catch up again.

Thanks again Ina for all your support and encouragement. I will get to your new posts as time allows.

Cheers - Ann

PS - Ann, with regards to sharpening, I discovered that you don't need to sharpen the entire picture. You can select one area and sharpen just that portion, while everything else stays the same. Ina

Thank you for taking the time to view and comment on this image Del. Yes it is the same waterfall as the frozen waterfall. It's called Multnomah Falls and has a drop of 620 feet. This was taken a couple of months ago when it was raining and foggy. I have taken hundreds of photos of all sorts of angles and variations of this waterfall cause it's the prettiest waterfall I've ever seen. I posted an attachment of the full falls taken on the same day in this thread and I also have it in my portfolio. I just thought this made for a different variation but obviously the full falls are going to be more beautiful.

Thanks for dropping by and for your valued comment.

Cheers - Ann

Hi Ann, As I commented on your FP feature, I asked why you had no new posts, but you do! I'm glad to see you back! Great close-up of this amazing waterfall and bridge. I love the composition and the great foliage colors. The water looks like a thin veil. It takes a lot of skill to shoot waterfalls, I tried many times and haven't posted any. You have the magic touch, and the soaked clothes to go with it Best regards, Ina

Thank you for taking the time to view and comment on this image Jim. I did notice it was a bit soft and I tried sharpening but afer I did that I preferred the softer look as I thought it suited the theme a bit more....kind of a yesteryear type of atmosphere. I have posted photos of this complete waterfall in the fog and rain and when it was frozen. They are in my portfolio but here is the larger version of the full falls taken on the same day. It was raining and foggy that day thus the misty softer appearance again.

The falls have a 620 foot drop so even with my widest angle lens I was hard pressed to get it all into the photo. I just thought this shot made for another variation of the same falls.

I'm afraid I may have gone a bit overboard taking too many photos of this waterfall but it's one of the prettiest waterfalls I've ever seen so I took hundreds of shots of all angles and variations and different seasons. I'm posting my favourites here.

Thank you again for dropping by and for your valued comments.

Cheers - Ann

Beautiful colors and slow shutter speed. I would love to see this with a shorter focal length to see more of the falls. The bridge looks a little soft. I wonder if sharpening the file would help or if the original was a little soft. What is your assessment of the sharpness?

Is this the same waterfall and bridge you shared with us about a week ago when it was frozen? I loved that photo. It is nice to see it now in warmer weather to compare. If it is the same bridge and I am allowed to vote I will vote for the frozen verson. Is there a viewing stand of some sort where you can photograph from? Where ever you were standing it gives a wonderful perspective to you both of the photos. Del.
