Ted,

This is purty. I really like the mood...soft, with a hint of darkness to it that adds just the right amount of mystery. I like the process you used to color it. You can get very interesting effects that way. And aren't RB's great cameras? A bit bulky, but WAY cheaper than Hassies, and you really do get just about the same results when you use good lenses. Good job, guy!

Ted, congratulations on the cover! I like the image very much, and it is well shot too. I like the glass effect.

Great composition. I like this kind of combination of motion and stasis.

I get the unsettling feeling that there are converging lines from left to right, suggesting that the film plane wasn't parallel with the wall, but it looks more like the lines really do converge, because the building really isn't square. Sometimes when I have a frame like this, I wonder whether I shouldn't try to correct it, even if that isn't how it really was in real life. I suspect though, if you tried to correct this one, say, by tilting the easel on the enlarger, you would cause another distortion and would quickly be chasing your tail.

Ted, Wow what a wonderful shot. I liked how you kept the tones in the middle except for the hand and the face. Wonderful mood.

This is wonderful - I particularly like the way the colour of the shawl and the beach almost mingle as one. this is the kind of portrait I want to be able to take! thaks for the inspiration ...!

Saw this a month ago or so, recognized the look immediately. Great album and great cover - and you nailed it here, the impression and look are the same - minus Tom obviously, but he's not an easy personality to replace. Normally I'd chime in with some corrective advice here, but i dont have any - other than - keep trying it with other subjects - get your take on this look with your thoughts and move on...

Ted -- Looks like a film still of a moody, gothic movie where the main character is fighting his own demons and out late wandering the streets. I love the fog and the reflected light. Nice Holga and capture! --Jamie

Sorry for the multiple posts.

Ah, thanks. But being a graphic designer and watching the photographic solutions in print degenerate into cheap, meaningless, but cool and readily available nonsense, I don't take it as a compliment.

I call my photography "lineimage". I'm out to create a simple series of images that play on the name: birds on a wire; laundry on the line; a kid flying a kite. I'm not sure this is one yet, but thanks for noticing.

I see you work with IR a lot. I used the Konica IR film for a while, but like the effect Kodak gives. I will have to experiment. I like both photos. The second one even more. I noticed you have a variety of styles. Cool stuff!

Thanks. Whats the 87c, is that the "real" infrared filter? I always use deep red.

Great drama! I love it.

You might want to pick up an 87c filter. It will greatly increase the infrared films capability. The softmness is inherent in the film because it is infrared.

It works really well with foliage and people.

Thanks, I've always loved Norman Rockwell.I'm happy it worked for you.I try not to think too much when I'm shooting; I see something and respond to that attraction as quickly as possible, most of the time shooting only one frame. I love hanging around kids, they always do something worthwhile. I have a print of this hanging in the back room, waiting to embarrass my son the rest of his life.

I'm priveleged to be the first commentor on this classic shot. You've really broken off a little piece of time here and it's almost like the spirit of Norman Rockwell possesed you (whether or not you enjoy his work, you can at least understand the mood im getting at). Composition, contrast, use of IR, PS work - this is easily one of the best images i've seen on usefilm.

Beautifull. I was dragged to the photo by the composition (strong white form in the foreground), to discover all the rest:
The strangeness and mistifying calm. This could be taken directly froma dream.

Really special, this one!

Ah, I didn't exactly "get" to enter, and the grain is because I over sharpened it. Still going through a bunch of black & white and color: gotta get some better scans.

Sure, you could create something similar in Photoshop. Sometimes the pure distorted camera image is cooler if it works.

Very atmospheric,I like the desolation of this scene and the element of intrusion provided by the beach chairs.Always a good idea to experiment but you could probably achieved much the same effect in P.S.by using layers and one of the blur filters, amongst others, couldn't you?

There's one more thing that enhances the mood of this image. The body proprotions (here created by the position of the camera close to the head) and the position of the horisontal lines (the coast and the water top line) just above the shoulders suggest to our subconscious the well-known images of crusifix. It is not too obvious so as to be "in bad taste", or the direct quotation, no, it works subtly. Most probably the photographer didn't conciously aim at that effect, but his subconcious worked here, too.

Nice ted, this image works quite well. I like it, you can put it into the latest project if you want. It fits really well there. I'd like to see more of this series.

I prefer the hoses one myself and I'd also like to see the upper left one which I believe is a puddle reflection with interesting textures. Very abstract. Anne

The upper left is a reflection of the open roof in the water on the floor. Should look fabulous in a 16 x 20 print! Here are similar ones from 35mm.

Ted,
Great composite! I'd love to see a single of that staircase! Is it possible ?

This is a nice set of images. Something that I sort of want to do as well. Make something out of what I may consider "mundane" and "day to day"...

Great work !
Cheers,
Dave
