Critiques From Tim Hoogendijk

I'm afraid the scanner is not to blame this time... I "forgot" to bring a tripod, so I had to brace myself against a wall to make this 1 sec exposure. The other image, of the large cross, was 1/4th of a second, handheld. Hence the soft look..
I know, I know.. "always use a tripod" etc etc... These damn things are a real bother when walking around in a city, not to mention the weight... It's a love-hate thing I guess

Dit is inderdaad het centraal Rini. Helaas in de steigers. Maar goed, het wordt er vast mooier op (net als de grote hal binnen, die nu al weer een tijdje in opgeknapte staat te bewonderen is).

I like the raw texture here. You succeeded very well in capturing the atmosphere of a graveyard in this photo.

Nice photo. Too bad the corner of the table is in focus in stead of the child... Otherwise very nice.

Very nice street photo! What kind of developer do you use for HP5?

Excellent photo! The grain is a bit too coarse IMHO.

Riny,
Groet, Tim.

Irony? Let's hope so.

Very nice street photo! I like the framing, though it's a bit heavy on the left side. Maybe you could crop a little bit to balance the composition.

Hi Steff,
Thanks for your comment. I don't know about the Yashimar lenses, but the Yashinon on my camera is pretty sharp. It might be true dat the Yashimar only produces good results at f11 or f16, but you'll use those apertures the most anyway (because of the limited dof with an 80mm lens). Good luck with your camera.

Yes, but the Electro and I had a disagreement about the closest focusing distance. I was too lazy to move my chair and he was too stubborn to go beyond 80cm... But that's OK, because it reflects the mood of a place where sharpness fades away with time (and the amount of beer one drinks) :-)

Photo's of cats are usually not my favourite, but I've never seen one with such a beautiful background! :-) Very nice.

This landscape is almost a bit too moody... ;-) No seriously, this photo is really too dark. I'm not sure what I'm looking at.. I see some kind of shed surrounded by trees and a house in the background. I assume the shed is starting too fall apart and/or the trees are overgrowing the shed, so it's indeed a very suitable subject for your new series. Maybe you should try to isolate an element of this shed where the tension between nature and the building is clearly visible. Try to keep the composition simple, so the message you try to make clear to the viewer is easier to recognize.
Are you going to post your series on usefilm? I'm looking forward to it.
Regards,
Tim

Beautiful photo. The monochrome colours of the building form a nice contrast with the sitting person. The dof & framing makes the whole scene look like a stage, with the architecture as decor-pieces.

Very beautiful street scene. Lovely hat as well :-) But damn those high-end digital cameras!! It's so sharp, it hurts my eyes! A bit of grain and softness would be nice (or am I just jealous? ;-)).
