The problem here is the lens actually rather than the camera, which is really frustrating for such an expensive lens. I use the Canon 50 D

Thanks Guido, yes the L glass does make a difference, although I am dissapointed with some of them. The best lens I have used is my 70-200 2.8, finely focus tuned by Canon, extremely sharp now. Impressed with the 16-35 2.8, but often soft in the left corner, in fact you can see that in this shot just around the water line just into the first small rock, to me the 17-40L although slower optically it is fantastic.

Sorry forgot to add, Zerene would work better for this shot than Helicon Focus because of your depth of focus stacks

Yes I had tried Zerene, also very good, Zerene is easier to use, and works better with deep stacks. Helicon works better with more stacks of less depth. I use them both depending on the shot I am trying to stack. They both have lots of limitations depending on the shot, and quite frankly on a number of occasions I have fully manually stacked the shots in photoshop layers.
