Oh my gosh! He's smiling at me!!! I absolutly LOVE this shot. Such a cute well-focused closeup. There's enough of the background to give you a feel for the setting. Brrrr.

What are you doing in Antartica anyway?

Rhosilli beach, viewed from a kite.

I thought initially that this shot lacked a focal point of interest, but as you look at it, it has a has a huge amount of inherent interest:

- thousands of footprints, from a busy sunday during a mad UK heatwave

- the washed away remains of a sandcastle

- beautiful gradation of changes in the sand colour due to the receding tide

- the sea itself in the top right, with a thin film of surging water in front

- a large rock that I accidentally kicked whilst my eyes were in the sky!

I'm thinking of selling this shot on a huge canvas board.

Very cool shot Nick.

Thanks for the extra info on your rigs, but I don't think I'd have the nerve to put my camera to the air. For now I think I will stick with admiring your great shots.

All the best,
Ed

Well done! I've always wanted to venture into the area of aerial photography using kites but never have had the gumption to rig something up. What kind of hookup do you use?

Incidentally, the diagonal lines your kite has captured really give a strong sense of flow to this image. Is it earning commission? ;-)

Well done, and keep up the great work!

Thanks for the comments Ed. Kite Aerial Photography is an acquired skill that needs a lot of patience and willing (to risk your kit!).

The answers to your questions about how I do it can be found on this page: http://www.flickr.com/photos/nickrussill/sets/7205759414346 0571/show/

A very cool portfolio Nick.

This one is by far my favourite; the shadows really make the shot.

I know a magician never reveals his tricks, but how do you do it? Set the timer and then raise the kite? Or are you using a remote? Must be a very reliable/controllable kite to trust it with your DLSR.

Again, my compliments on a very imaginative and well put together portfolio.

All the best,
Ed

A very interesting shot Nick.

I was about to compliment your angle while questioning your focus until I read your "About" section. Now I am just impressed you managed any kind of shot let alone this one. Off to check the rest of your kite portfolio.

All the best,
Ed
