Too far away. Can't tell what the "point" of the composition is - the sitting man, the orange bundle (a body? Someone sleeping?) Nothing about the photo suggests anything remotely religious or ascetic. It could be a snap of Joe the hotel caretaker taking a break at the rockpile, for all the aesthetic or emotional impact it conveys. Remember the mantra: Closer. Closer. Closer.

I own too many cameras (Sigh.) This week, I'm carrying my Rollei 35S in my briefcase / canvas bag. The Kiev 35a is the most pocketable of my cameras. The rolleis are hard to beat, as far as lens quality is concerned.

Au Frenglish:

Merci, Alain.

I do like the Kiev. In spite of the reputation of the Kiev 35a for light leaks, and the fact that this photo had a light leak, I'm not convinced that THIS was one of THOSE light leaks. I'd never had that problem with this camera before, and I had loaded this film in more than one camera (1st camera did not advance; switched to Kiev; after 8 exposures transferred the roll to another camera.) I'm pretty sure the leak is not a Kiev 35a leak.

The "Lollipop" portrait is a definite "keeper", but this one is more like a casual doodle in an artist's notebook - parts are interesting to glance at for a moment (the book, the hair hanging in front of the face), but its not really for framing.

It looks like the Orcs from the Lord of the Rings. Disgusting that people would vandalize public art exhibits.

Photo 2

Focus distance of what? Two feet.

The camera was donated. I unscrewed the lens and cleaned out fungus as best I could, but the inner-most element still had some schmutz on it.

I have always placed the cold egg in the boiling water, and then boiled it for three minutes. She places the cold egg in a pot of cold water, brings the water to boil, and cooks the egg for just one minute. I copied what she did.

The taste of the egg had nothing to do with the cooking method. It was delicious, and that probably had something to do with the source and how they feed the chickens.

Thanks.

Three words of advice: shoot wide open. [At f/2.0 or larger, with a good lens.]

He did read it to me, but I don't recall what it was. It was only last Saturday, at his favourite suburban strip plaza Vietnamese / Chinese restaurant. The fortune was pretty lame. My fortune was something to the effect that I would become reacquainted with someone from my past. The food was ok - wonton soups, sesame chicken, hot and spicy beef.

Cool self portrait of artist in mirror. I actually like the color version better. I'm guessing that your settings were f/2.8 and 1/30 or 1/60 (depending on film speed.) I actually have two of those cameras in the closet, but there are too many others in my "collection" and I haven't got around to trying them out. (Do you have any other Smena shots to show?)

Oops. Didn't mean to do that. Sometimes I accidentally alter the menu selections by turning the wheel on my mouse. I'll go fix it.
