Petra, I like this photo the way it is, to be honest. I'm not sure about the idea of cloning snow in if you were to switch it, but I do understand where David is coming from somewhat. I'm not big on cloning in photos. I don't like the idea of changing reality. What I like about this photo is the way the eye travels down the walkway and into the distance. I like the background looking this way, but maybe it is also interesting the other way.

Interesting photo indeed and no I don't really think our airways are very safe at all. Trust me, I once visited a marine base where they kept all the black hawk helicopter and my dad, an ex-marine and I simply walked right into the hanger. Of course, that was a few years ago, but still. We were only stopped by one captain on duty. It was New Year's Day and the doors to the hanger were wide open. Great target for terrorists. It is a well-known base too.

I'm not sure why someone rated this photo lower than a five or six. It is not an amazing shot with a bunch of background, but it is an amazing shot in other ways, such as lighting and composition. MOre than I could do probably. I really like it, the coloring and the closeness of the shot. Very cool.

The fall color was probably an accidental hit I imagine. I wish there was a little more of the chair here to show more of the lighting, etc.,

This photo is so strong and emotional. I love it. What a wonderful portrayal of your father.

Gosh, being from Northeastern Pa, this really looks familiar and gosh how I hate it! Nice shot, however. Makes me think of running home (driving slowly home) and cuddling under the covers with a good book and my hubby.

A pleasant alternative indeed. Amazing shot. Not much improvement needed here. Something to strive for, I think.

Kathryn:
I think one problem my eyes had with this photo is the background. It seems a little dark for the dark puppy. He doesn't seem to show up as well as I think he could. I like the way he is set in the frame, however and I think he is such a cute dog. I just think a lighter background might bring him out a little more.

Would love to see the guys head. Otherwise it is a pretty cool shot.

This comment should have been from me, not Ed Boardman...whoops! This computer was logged on in his name. Don't blame Ed for anything

i don't think think this was placed here for ratings, but advice. That is what this site is supposed to be aboutng

Getting closer might have helped if your flash is not that strong. Otherwise a stronger flash would have been better. Cropping in closer can sometimes help the lighting, because the flash doesn't have as far to hit on the subject, I have found. however, I am not a professional. Hopefully someone else can offer advice as well.

Whoever rated this photo a two and then left no comment on it, is an idiot. Sorry, but you are. Or...actually you did an idiotic thing. I think some people are just being vengeful on here. I don't know why, but they are.

I know I said this was dark before, but taking a second look, it is still a very interesting photo. You're right, temptation is dark, so it really fits the title of the photo on here. Nice contrast of the darkness with some of the light in the background on the statue. The photo definitely provokes interesting thoughts.

Rusty,
I know how you feel about those low ratings and no explaination. Of course, becareful when you ask for advice some people only give opinions and talk about how inferior your work is. I don't intend to do that, however and lets hope I'm never guilty of it. (sometimes one becomes what they criticize so I need to watch myself)

Now, on to the photo. I personally like it and think it is a really cool shot of the bird taking off. I think you were in the right place at the right time and it is awesome you were able to capture such an amazing moment.
I think what would be better would be if you could get some more background in the photo, like more of the post for instance to give an idea of where he is flying from or to. However, I'm not sure how you could do that. When you are capturing a moment there really isn't time to "set-up" a shot. This is real life not posed and for that reason I really like it. Some photographers on here used only posed shots. They do a great job, but then when someone takes a shot in reality they get a little confused because it is not set up. I think the good photos are those that are captured in the moment (not that the other ones are not good...that isn't what I meant. Many of them are awesome too).

Love the feeling of this photo. Little depressing and maybe a little bit of satire (?), but I like the way the softness adds to the photo and the feel of it. I also like the darks and shadows.

I like the sharpness of the kitty in this photo, but I think there could be a little more contrast, if maybe the photo was cropped closer or from another angle. The kittys expression could be better too. Gosh, he looks bored. :-) Oh wait, that is how kitties look, don't they? I should know I have two very particular ones. I do like the shot, though.

I wouldn't mind being able to see the woman's face more in this photo. Maybe from a different angle. The moment is a lovely one to capture, however and the color is lovely.

It is probably because I am a reporter with the hope to someday become a real journalist, that I like this photo so much. I love the moment it captures and to me that is what photography, what journalism photography, especially is all about. I think centering on those two people with those looks of determination was just what this photo needed. Very cool. I would like to check out your other posts as well, which I think I will do now.

I think Marcelo might be a little soft in his photo. Sharpness might be better for him..but ooh-la-la..hello Marcelo. :-) I did not rate this photo, low by the way. I like the composition of it, even if it could be sharper...or he could.

I think a more forward view of the uncles face might be better for this photo and a closer version of him. Like the idea, though.

I'm not sure who is being so rude and giving low ratings without commenting, but I think they should be ashamed of themselves. The one problem Ihave with this photo is the problem I have in taking photos :-) there is a shadow behind Gran's head. I think her expression could be a little better too becuase I have a feeling this is a women with quite a character. ALso, I don't like that her head is cropped off on the right. Beyond all that I like that this a photograph of someone and not just a "something." Not that those are bad all the time -- I just like this one. One other thing -- the photo is a little grainy, which I wonder if it is the film or the scanner or if it is meant to be that way. I don't think it necessarily takes away from the photo, it is just a tad distracting.

Very nice photo. Her expression strikes me as a humerous one because she reminds me of a cousin of mine. It is not clear what she is sitting on, but I don't think that takes away from the photo, which is laid out very nice.

Dawna: Don't meant to be rude, (just tired at the moment, really so I sound kind of rude) but I could care less if there is a white spot on the guys face. Maybe photographers don't strive for it, but it is what happened in this photo and I frankly don't see that it ruins it that much. This photo is real for once. I know Dan can handle criticism and I know he doesn't mind criticism -- I simply expressed an opinion.
