A really fantastic shot. This is easily better than many car calendar photos I've seen. Good work!

An excellent night shot. I love how you captured the church but managed to render the background black. Good angle and placement with the moon. Excellent!

I really like the color and shapes in this photo. It's neat to think the bird might be watching the same thing we are. Good job!

This photo really emphasizes the purpose of the subject, which I like. Good job.

Interesting composition. The lighting and artifacts distract from the photo. Still, you have a good eye to have seen this shot.

Another great capture of color reflecting off a lake...if only it had been level ;-) Still a great photo.

Fantastic colors in a classic composition. Really good job! Did you push up the saturation or play with it at all in Photoshop? I would have guessed Velvia, not Superia 100.

I like the unique composition and emphasis on shape. Though I wish the glass were more prominent some how. Maybe a darker wine?

I'm afraid I have to disagree with Andrius. The overcast day probably helped bring out the colors in this photo. You have a good composition, nice use of color, and clearly communicate the feeling of fall. My only complaint is the branch invading the bottom right corner. Otherwise, great work!

I like the composition you chose. However, I don't know if I would have done the Photoshop highlighting. When I first looked at it it seemed akward because not all the beams come off as green (some are too dark), so it's not like the subject is clearly colorized on a B&W background. Still, a good shot.

Excellent and original composition. Good color. A very unique image. I never would have thought to shoot something like this, and you made it interesting. Great job!

* The sun in the frame is one problem. It over powers the image and introduces quite a bit of flare. When shooting to include the sun you're really best off using a prime lens. In this case, you would also want to use a Graduated Neutral Density filter. These filters are darker in one half than in the other, allowing you to expose both the sun/sky and ground without over/under exposing one or the other.

* If you were to reshoot this to keep the sun out of the frame, but still keep a similar angle to the sun, you would definetly want to use a lens hood and/or shade the lens with something to reduce flare.

* There are a lot of artifacts in this image. I'm guessing consumer film developed at the local drug or grocery store? Avoid such places like the plague. They murder film. Find a good, reasonably priced pro lab in your area which will keep your film clean. Also, you can get pro films (finer grain, sharper, better color rendition) at places like B&H often cheaper than consumer films locally.

* Finally, I think I would have composed to keep the tracks out of the frame.

It is an image with potential. I hope these suggestions help!

Suggestions:

* The background seems to over power the image. It's considerably brighter and not blurred enough, so your eye is drawn to objects but can't find detail in them. To really blur a portrait background you usually need a fast lens such as an 85 f/1.8.

* The overall image seems very soft. Not sure why, but you should strive for a sharper portrait.

* There doesn't seem to be enough light on the model, parts of her hair (shadow area) have no detail.

* Finally, I'm not crazy about how she has her arm. It looks like an akward position.

You have a pretty model and you did get even, diffused lighting over her face. Hope these suggestions help!

As another poster said, it's not what you show, it's what you don't show!

Very good and sensual portrait. I like the lighting, composition, texture, and how it plays off the imagination. Good work!

Jason - eliminating shake requires a firm tripod, remote or timed release (your hand pressing the shutter will blur the shot), little to no wind, and preferably mirror lockup. Also, a 500mm lens is pretty large/heavy, so you need to mount the lens on the tripod as oppsed to the camera body (you're probably doing this, but wanted to be sure). Otherwise any slight vibration, even from the shutter, will shake the lens front element (not to mention the stress on the camera body).

Also note that the moon is moving, so too long of an exposure will result in motion blur. Further, any atmospheric movement will blur things (i.e. clouds on a windy day).

My exposure for my moon shot (http://www.usefilm.com/image/223519.html) was 1/15s at f/16 at ISO 100. In theory the moon should expose well at "sunny 16" because it is an object directly reflecting sunlight. But I think 1/15s exposed better than 1/90s in this case.

Having said that...I actually think you have a good shot here. It has a creative feel to it and looks spooky.

Hope this helps!

This needed some form of light source from the left. I don't know if a reflector would have worked as the light coming in the window doesn't seem that strong to begin with (maybe though, would have been worth the shot). A flash would be too harsh and unbalanced.

I like it, I just feel like there should have been some light/detail on the cat's back.

I think this is pretty good. Others have commented on the few problems. Regarding the contrast I'm surprised nobody suggested using an assistent with a reflector on her right side (even a silver car window reflector would work) OR shooting much earlier/later in the day.

Great potential though!
