A neat shot Ray. I really like abstract photography and yours captures it for me. I would be tempted to crop it further on top to eliminate the orange at top center frame. That makes the opening at top right even more interesting while at the same time increasing focus on the water movement and simplifying the balance of color. Beautiful work.

Beautiful photo of the Falls! I've been here once in the evening (only Canadian side) and the multiple colours are very recognizable. Wonderful how you captured the feel of the Falls at night in this photo. Great composition and colours.

I like the color of this one better than the blue one. Tho I wish the foreground could be in focus as well. The lighting is magical.

I have this photo just not zoomed up as close, I shot it a couple years ago in the same spot that you had to shoot this. I think that is the best vantage point at night and you did great. Jim as always.

Great job and nice colors.

And thanks for the comment on my Holga shot http://www.usefilm.com/image/201689.html To answer your question, I usually use 35mm film. I haven't tried slide film yet.

I need to go there. Are the waterfalls actually lit up in those colors? This is amazing. I thought you colored it in PS. Love the 4 secs exposure. Great picture.

  0

Ray Witter   {K:6149} 10/9/2003
I tried many different exposure combinations, 4 sec. at f3.8 seemed to be the best compromise between getting the light to look right and the right amount of flow in the water. I used to shot a lot of night photography on film, and it was always a crap-shoot. You make your best guess (usually not very good) on exposure and then bracket like hell, and then when you process the film hope for the best. Its a much better situation with digital, you get instant feed back and can make adjustments and retake the image immediatly.
Thanks for the comments eveybody.

Outstanding Ray. Another wonderful photo.

Jim McNitt   {K:11246} 10/9/2003
Hi Roy:

Tarek suggests a shorter exposure. I was actually wondering about the opposite approach -- a longer exposure stopped down to f/7.whatever -- the point being to extend the DOF and try to get a some crisper details in the static parts of the scene. --Jim

Excellent photo, composition, colors and angle but why did you choose the 4 sec shutter although a 2 sec will work?

this looks fantastic ray, amaizing colors in a quite nice composition!
P.S. about your comment on the mother`s girl face...you are right about the reading ...she was looking not to the girl but to some pieces of african handicrafts that where in the street ground..if you look carefully you will see a bit of one of the statues in the down part of the shot...

Chris Spracklen   {K:32552} 10/9/2003
Spectacular sight! I've been privileged to see it a number of times on my trips to Canada ~ but I've only seen it from the Canadian side so I'm having a job trying to get my head round this view of it!
Great shot Ray! Brings back some great memories!
Regards, Chris.

Actually, I did very little in PS, the color and every thing else are straight out of the camera. Only thing i did in PS was to slightly crop and remove a couple of spects of light which were above the falls on the other side, car headlights i think, thanks for the comments.
