Rather than reinvent and repackage Newton's Law of Universal Gravitation, Euclidean space, and perspective space, I should point out that the man is a good distance away from the boy, and each has/had their own ball.

I like the levitating ball, it contrasts so well against the dark background...and sort of gives an upside down/reversed "L" sense of motion (with the boy's action, and all) here.
