This proud Canadian Veteran is my uncle, Tony Basciano. He is a decorated WW2 veteran with an interesting history. My family emigrated to Canada shortly before the war. My father was the youngest of five brothers. One of them, my uncle Nicholas stayed in Italy, and fought for them in the war. He was killed in battle. My Uncle Tony and Uncle Andy fought for Canada. My uncle Tony pictured here, was part of the liberation of Italy, which you can imagine, was an emotional experience fighting against the Italians.
War is devestating to soldiers and families on both sides of any conflict.
Thank You for sharing the picture and the story. "Uncle Tony" and many others walked a path the no one wanted to take, but their moral convictions and personal courage have made Canada the envy of the world. Thanks to all our Vetrans!
