About I was enjoying this young Sharp Shinned hawk cavorting around in an oak tree pretty close to me. I managed to switch to my telephoto lens before he flew off.

The Sharp Shinned is an Accipiter, related to the Goshawk and Cooper?s hawk. They have long thin tails and short rounded wings that allow them to maneuver in the woods. They also have a smaller beak, similar to falcons. The real giveaway though are the bare lower legs.

Excellent shot Paul,
Even under the low light conditions you were able to get a great action pic with nice details.
Keep up the good job.

Magnificent shot. I just love the elegant sweep of the wings, especially the near one with its backlighting.

I don't get the immature part? Well, i don't know much about birds except for Woody Wood Pecker and the Road Runner...oh and El Pollo Loco...yum. So this is a Hawk...Like in Hawks and Doves? Nice Capture Paul, yes in deed.....
