Thanks Gabriela, sorry I'm late with my comments, I'm just back from a two-day quasi-absence :) Love your comment, you are a true POET, both in words and in images :) Love, Ina

thanx Ina for your explanation.
i am new to abstracts, i dont like many of them actually, but yours meet my taste, i like it, and after considering your comment i like more the background that looks like an oil painting done by the great DOF u chose. very nice job agian and hope you can check the first abstract i have posted, if its is to be considered one :)

Thanks Yahya for your comment. The point here is not to show a particular leaf or subject. The subject is the Composition. It's about Composition. Treated as an abstract, where the subject - the "center stage" item takes a secondary role, goes "backstage" and the background (usually the neglected item) becomes the primary element. It's an inversion of roles.

Congratulations Ina on making the front page. he leaves in this are so sharp and crisp and the backgound really does make for a nice backdrop like a stage setting for the foreground. The whole thing comes together to form a very nice abstract with lovely colours and tones. Nice work Ina. Cheers - Ann :)

Congrats Ina, on having this image used in the Featured Critique today. It will give you tons more exposure of course, so very richly deserved, and also get some of us to think more about the facinating subject put forth in the critique. Win-win!

Well, GREAT to see you again on the front page!!!!
Love from Gabriela
PS. I did not ask you what was the meaning of this photo, I just wrote a tiny poem - which means I found a meaning, my own.

suddenly ur another person Ina :)
not your usual style at all :), but i do like to change my point of view every now and then in order to keep our creativity alive. i guess this is neccesary for any ARTIST.
as for the photo the background is stunning, the DOF is great but i dont really feel ok with small area the leafs take of the photo, this is the idea of your abstract, but as a receiver i still didnt build a meaning for it yet. i would shoot this same photo with maybe 1 leaf only, the red 1 i guess.
still very beautifull photo to look at and congratulations for the featured critique.

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique Just a precision, Dear Ina, about the question of "what the subject of A photograph might be" (I meant "in general"): I am in total agree with you and for me the question is never "what the photographer (or the artist in general) WANTED to be the subject of the work" but what actually it is (for me and you the observer). There you'll have to look for relationships and proportions of the visible elements AND, going beyond the frame of the photograph, looking for possible hidden meanings (hidden even to the artist)... Well it can be a long long discussion and I am not a specialist in aesthetic matters.

This was just to say that I do agree with you and am glad that you find these words of some interest.

Cordially yours.

A.

Hi Aram, very insightful comments, as always, you make a great critic! I had my doubts whether to post this one, but then... I did.
With regards to the question some people ask "what is the subject of this photograph" - I say: "does it need to have a subject?" - The subject is whatever you, the viewer, make of it -Thanks for your great comments! Ina

Oh my God, I have missed it. How careless I am. Many thanks Ina, it is very kind of you. (I apologize for the many "y"-s in my name, it must be "Chinese" for foreigners. Anyway, I would like to offer my nickname from now on, which I prefer to my rather serious firstname [=George], i.e. Gyuri.) Best, Gy.

Aram Gharib Aram Gharib   {K:4656} 10/25/2005
Great composition. There are these sharp colors dancing on a corner of the blurry stage, as for leaving the scene! Or in the contrary to slide in the scene... In both cases, they seem to be of the vast family of "odd"s!!

This picture is daring and brave. It somehow asks the visitor the essential question of "what is the subject of a photograph?"

I liked it very much, but quite differently from "Honey", for instance. Thanks for sharing.
