I honestly don't even think I've seen a real dolphin??! I remember seeing on t.v. that they can be aggressive....makes sense now! Thanks for the information...NOT babble!

Hey Janet, the marks are not as strong in reality as they look here in this B&W version. Mosty those are bite marks from other dolphins. Sounds more drastic than it is, though. Dolphins have social hieracies like many other animals that live in groups and they sometimes fight for positions. They use their fluke and their teeth. The teeth aren't sharp (they are not made to really bite and cut through meat, but only to grab fish) but good enough to leave those marks and they stay much longer compared to human skin.
One species called Risso's dolphin are born as dark. When they get these scratched they become white and it stays like this for the rest of their lives. Older Rissos are almost completely white.
Sorry for the babble, I used to be the "#1 dolphin fan" for some time. :)
