About Shot taken from a recent aid trip to Sri Lanka. This 8 year old girl and her 10 year old brother lost both parents when they were swept away by the tsunami waves of Dec 2004.

I would appreciate any suggestions as to how we could make some money from this image, to send directly to the remaining family.

Cheers for now

Manu

Very beautiful and moving portrait, Manu. I would try to donate the picture to an aid agency (as Tim Long said) and let them use it for raising money. I think it has the absolute potential - it is as powerful as the famous Afghan woman (I don't know the photographer's name) - that made the National Geographic cover. Or enter it in a contest and donate the prize money - which I'm sure you'll win. It's a very powerful image, very self-explanatory, great for a poster, magazine cover, etc. Great work! Ina

Powerful emotion and narrative, Manu, and very well taken. I would suggest contacting existing aid agencies to see if there is more than cursory interest. They probably see images all the time... but yours is an unusually beautiful and dramatic shot. It should be the cover photo for an aid brochure. Directly to the family, though? I like Gayle's ideas. Think about who the money should go to, also. It would not likely be sent to 8- and 10-year old children. Extended family? Hope this helps, Manu. All else aside, this is very good photowork.

Hello Manu,

This is indeed a powerful portrait. You have done this so well. I like the image a lot.

I looked at your website, looked at your Sri Lanka images, all powerful. Very good, shows it all and for sure tells the story.

I then looked up 'Smileinternational.org'...that was on a person's tee shirt. Very good website, I'm going to go back to it to read more.

Thank you for bring this to us, sharing...

Nice work,
Lori :)

Not only a gorgeous shot of a lovely young lady, but important photojournalism....i would go to forum and state what you wrote in the about and also ask AL,the admin here at UF,if something could be set up with direct donations perhaps,or we could send donations to your paypal acct. if have one?.......posting the photo with the request will drive the point home...otherwise,go to ebay to sell prints or 300dpi file of photo in their charity section.....good luck and keep me posted...great job with this image,Manu
regards, gayle (i notice you are not a donor, but i am,so if want me to start a thread in the donor forum, let me know)7+

Among the better portraits. Beautifully photographed and with such empathy, such poignancy. This is an important picture, for it?s quality and in the context of the about ? I wont soon forget the unabashed intensity, the direct gaze, of this beautiful little girl - In all honesty I?m deeply moved right about now. One tends to become somewhat blasé in the face of so much misery? I?ve witnessed so much first hand?
I?m afraid I don?t have any ideas Manu. However, if you email the child?s name / address, also her brother?s, I promise to send $?s. Others could do likewise.

Tragic. They are forced to grow up quickly because of it. Well done.

This is a powerful shot.. really straight into ones heart. I guess the best way is to send a small image with you telling their story to the big newspapers... but then again.. they might think its to late now (not a news anymore).

Very good shot!

Regards,

Patrick J

A wonderful portrait of this dear little lad, Manu!
I wish I knew how you could raise some money with it, but it's not an area I know much about.
I wish you well with the project however and congratulate you on your efforts.
Best regards, Chris

Hi Manu

A very nice image albeit a tragic one.
How could you make money from it ............ I have racked my brain but I can offer no suggestions. Have you thought about sending the image to the family concerned what a beautiful keepsake that would be.

Mark
