Location City -  Isla Cana
State -  PANAMA
Country - Panama   Panama
About While in Panama I had the pleasure of being there at the time the turtles were coming ashore and laying their eggs. We took an overnight trip to Isla Cana and actually witnessed this spectacle first hand. Tough work trying to capture these guys in the dark and it was fun to work with flash for a change. I must of took about 20 shots trying to capture the egg before it hit the pile. I succeeded It was a lot of fun and these are amazing creatures. This is an Olive Ridley Sea Turtle dropping one egg. The flash gives it the appearance that there are two eggs but it is only one. The people of the island help support themselves by collecting the eggs and selling them at the market. There is an area on the island that they are forbidden to collect from so as to assure the lifline of this incredible animal.

Great capture of this spectacle, Jim! It's great you happened to be there at that time, and were able to get out there to see it, and bring it back to us!

I haven't figured out why the flash makes it appear as two eggs.

I've watched Olive Ridley's laying eggs in Chennai, India. It's a great experience. A group of people have started a conservation program where they collect the eggs and take them to a hatchery to save them from humans/wild animals.
