About Brieven = Letters and Brief = Letter.
There you go... a free lesson in Dutch... if there's enough interest... I might consider doing a written course... LOL!!!

This is a handy and old 'combination': letterbox opening and doorhandle in one... !!! The old aspect: just look at how worn the handle is... this door has been opened a lot of times, but that kind of figures.... it was in a house from the 19th century...

I love this composition of yours, Petal. I've never seen a door-pull/letter slot like this one. It has a lot of character.

I think it would be fun to see a "Dutch primer," from you, consisting of photos of various words you find in your photo-travels.

Your language is so interesting to me because I understand a little German and Yiddish. When I hear Dutch, I usually can't make out any words, because I don't know the rules of pronounciation, but when I see it written, it looks much more familiar to me!

Best regards,
SteveR

Beer = bier and the pronunciation is the same so that's real easy... LOL!! The only problem is... do you want a glass = glas, a bottle = flesje, a can = blikje or a whole case = kratje.... choices, choises.... ;-D!!! As for the kebab... that's just kebab 'cause that a foreign word for us as well.... end of lesson two = twee... ;-D!!!

Hey at this rate I'll be fluent in Dutch! Thats wijnen=wine, brieven=letters and letter=brief... Now... how do I order a case of beer and a kebab?

I like th etextures on this shot Petal. The differene in textures between the door and the handle, the wear on the handle and the patterning of the surround work really well.

Well seen and taken!

Well now Chris:
Still alive would be: (nog) levend.
And inhale: inademen or inhaleren (the latter one is almost the same as in English and so it's more medical... what you would do with an inhaler eg. or smoke inhalation... ;-D).
Hope this clears it up for you.... duidelijk zo???... LOL!!!

Super symmetry and sharpness, Petal.
I thought of one or two other alternative meanings for 'brieven'?
How about: 'still alive'?! Or, 'inhale'?! )
Thanks for the lesson!
Best regards, Chris
