Well spotted, Roger! You're right, of course ~ I have no fisheye lens? Yet!!
And many thanks for the straightened version. It looks very good. I did correct the perspective a fair bit, but felt I wanted to leave a little 'lean' to emphasise the sheer size of this magnificent structure.

by the early photographer who wants a fish eye lens :))
I bought a wide lens 12-24mm and from time to time borrow a fish eye lens, and do agree with you, they could be very useful

sure is an impressive place, though they've started to charge a fiver to go in! Used to be free with those optional boxes on the way in.
Very tricky to get an original shots of it, not many from this angle really - were you up by the black railings for this one? need a 14mm lens to get it all in from there :-)
nice deatil and I alwayws wondered what it looked like without people all around it!

Here's how it would look with the verticals more or less aligned. I have no problems with the "vertical panorama" look but some find it a bit drastic... What do you think?

People seem to have interpreted your remark about fisheyes as implying that you used one. Not so, I believe. And architectural shots are quite the most difficult to take successfully with one... I see you know the trick of minimizing the effect of leaning verticals by making sure the vertical in the center of the picture is true. I still think I would have corrected them... one use of PS that I exploit without a second thought"!

Chris, Thanks for the about. The smaller building in the background provides a counterpoint to the massive ornate front of the church. Lovely sky colors. It's strange how architecture and art (oil paintings) from centuries ago look much more sophisticated than what we see today.

Amazing picture dear Chris.
I remember when I went to York my effort to get some nice picture of that church. I had only a 50mm at that time but when I was back from England my bag carried an extra 28mm lens :-)
Thank you for the brief history of the cathedral.
If I remember there was a a big fire about 10 or more years ago that destroyed part of the roof I hope is ok now.
