About What can I say? I know this feeling well. Usually when I'm trying to decide whether or not to post a photo on UseFilm! :)
In fact, I was "undecided" if I should have cropped tighter...I'm attaching a tighter crop in comments. This was the shot framing so I didn't have a choice of leaving more on the top. What do you think?

Susie, I thank you for your comments on my Amish travels. This is a beautifully-captured image and I cannot really add anything that others have said already. I would say however that I really wish his head hadn't been chopped at top :( That said, this is compelling in every way, colours, DOF, decisive moment - everything! I'm guessing this young lad is somewhat smart - one can just tell from your take on him. Kind regards, Anthony.

Dear Susie!
I am so glad that you think about my b/w version!
Anyway I am "old fashion" guy and I still prefer b/w pictures instead of colour if you want to express something "strong".
If you have time take a look on my colleague Tomo's portfolio, like...
http://www.usefilm.com/image/560775.html
Or
http://www.usefilm.com/image/490325.html
And emotions like this you can't express with colour! This is my opinion.
And also I think that your picture have some special kind of "feelings". That is reason why I suggested b/w option!
All the best,
Igor

You're welcome Susie. My initials are SAM. My name is Sally. Being that this is just a hobbie I thought using my initials were the easiest, and I prefer SAM as a lot of my friends call me SAM or Sal (but I answer to anything :) ).

hahaha, well, i know guy could be under the torment of a dilemma but his expression is quite funny, well noticed and well captured. Colors are bright and crisp and lighting is apt. Somehow the curve of his neck and his face reminds me of an ET.
I hope this guy is not related 2 u :)!

Regards
Pankaj

Thanks Linda! It's strange with critique of the day...it's more for recognition of the critiquer, but the critiqee gets their photo recognized. I guess everyone wins that way. It was a nice surprise for me!

Interesting Igor! Thanks for taking the time to play with my image. I still think I prefer the color version on this one, but this b/w treatment is grat also. Have a great day and thanks for the nice comment.

I love your photos of children. They catch them with such natural expressions and the colours and details are wonderful. I sure hope I can become alot better on 'people' shots now that I am a grandmother.

Rina, you make me smile! What a nice comment. I sure don't know how the BIP stuff works and will be flabbergasted if I ever receive one. But I do appreciate the support. You're what UseFilm is all about! Thanks a bunch.

Yay! Made the front page for an awesome shot Susie!!!

I think the tighter crop works really well. Focus is more on the expression without the t-shirt in the way.

Nicely done.
Cheers
Rina

I usally crop pic at a 8-10 so I can print to fram if I want to. that often limit the crop. this might be nice with less on the sides but only if it is the way it would work for you.4I love his expression. 7

Hi Ahmed,
Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. The shutter on this was 1/400 and the f 6.3. It was automatic settings on my camera which I find for my skill level are usually the best!
Thanks for commenting. :)

Nice capture of an everyday thoughtful expression. I like the first submission best. It has a little breathing room and there is nothing that detracts from your focus on his expression. Good job!

An engaging portrait, Susie.
Not much to choose between the two crops in my opinion.

Wow, thanks Mohamed. I really like yours too. Way better than my second choice. I didn't think of cropping it like that. I appreciate your input. Please feel free to play with any of my images. I learn so much that way!
Best regards! Susie

As far as the expression goes the impact for me is the same in all three crops...so you see, you don't have the market on indecision, I'm very good at that...hahahaha...Susie, I like what you did with the first one. The blue compliments his skin tones, and is nice and I also like him contrasted against the dark background. If you have to decide on a crop, after the first, the original, I like Mohamed's best...very well taken and presented...:):)

I like the first image better, Susie. The tighter crop looks too cramped. Great expression. Can almost hear him saying, "Ummmmm". Excellent. Cheers, Ann.

Tighteer cropped of what I look at, is more obvious then the first uploading, because what you want to expose is the expression on this face of young man and the shoulders are not necessary for. Capture indeed very good in the clear details.
Bravo
Claude.

This is good, Suz. Definitely no on the tighter crop IMO. Doesn't bother me that the top of his head is out, though. I like it! (But...who is it?!)
Kath
(Just read the rest of the comments...I like your original post best, but I like Mohammad's post better if you crop more out...how about you?)
