About Shot of a thunderstorm near my home.
It was still way too bright for long shutter speeds, so I scooted down to ISO 100, cranked the iris to f22, and put on my polarizer. That resulted in a pleasing 5 second exposure, I think.
What do you think?

oh, yes! I've been a 35mm shooter all my life, and a couple years ago, got my first digital camera (Kodak DX6490). It was ok..had good glass, but the focus speed, lack of manual controls, etc was driving me crazy(er).

Wow...moving up to the 20D was like going from a Vespa to a Ferrari!

Thanks for your comments on my shot, Nicole.

This shot has a great ethereal feeling Paul. Very nice work. Don't you love the 20D? I just got one and am having a blast with it!

Thanks, Tom!
Now that I've figured out how to snag them, I'm anxiously awaiting the next storm's arrival.

Fantastic and dramatic. The detail that is still contained within is excellent.

Yes, it was a 5-second exposure with one bolt ripping through the heart of the cloud, and exiting the cloud at the left.

Amazing cloudscape Paul. Clouds fascinate me -- such a temporary thing of beauty, and the lightening bolt even moreso. Is that light inside the cloud all coming from lightening? Wow! Antonia

Lara, this is awesome. I learnt a bit of capturing them thro your "about" section. I can see some streaks of light behind the clouds. I like the other photograph "spear of light" you posted earlier too.

Cheers

Graet capture Paul. I love the light behind the clouds. Good idea to use polarizer :)
Cheers,

I couldn't agree more. It's almost frightening in its power and intensity. The word "awesome" was invented for shots like this.

I think it is a remarkable image. It fairly rumbles. My success with a circular polarizer falls well short of yours in this shot. Well done.

All the best,
--George
