This whole concept of ideas is build around the motion picture theme, using various techniques to capture a change over time. That change may be in position or in physical state or any other change I came up with. These are the first three themes within the Motion Picture project, and I'll continue to elaborate on this theme from time to time. If you have any suggestions, I'm happy to hear them!

Thanks for your comments on the previous images I uploaded. It greatly helps me build this project.

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi Randee, thanks for your comment, a good opportunity to see one of my older photos too, and yeah, I'd love to have one of these now, they're simply delicious. Patience is a virtue, though. Not the season for strawberries yet...:)

Cheers,

Hugo

GREAAAATTTTTTTTTT!!!
a wonderful and delicious drink very well mixed with a big grade of difficulties very well balanced each other.
Flash syncronizing on the rear slow curtain is a little dimonstration of a huge knowledge in photogrphy matter even is we know how you are skilled in.
In every shot you share with us we can learn a lot day per day.
in this one you teach us how to manage and to control fluid dinamics in photography by using artificial lights also in variation of exposure values.
A taste of a big photographics technique embedded in a drink...really superb.... as usual...
you are special Hugo

May I suggest to you next shot drink mix ingredients?

Milk, meant and strawberry.
thank you for your lessons Maestro!!!!

Again Hugo excellent !
This one has me thinking real hard and that can be dangerous.
Matter of fact I want to stop what I'm doing and go try my Idea but I haven't had much online time so I better continue trying to catch up a bit.
I will let you know how it went when I get it done.
Loving your work.....keep it up :)

Looks nice and refreshing, Hugo. Glass looks like a right royal pain to light...

great still life
very creative, the bubbles, the water freeze just perfect
I'm not really fond of the placement of the glass in the frame though, unless there is some text on the left, I think better placed center

Hi Hugo,

this time, the motion blur aspect is not that dominant. it's more a product shot for me. nothing against product shots ;-)

maybe a black background would help to add some contrast. just an idea though ;-)

best wishes,
Thilo

This one doesn't do the motion thing the same way. Waahhhhh (whine). It's nice, though lacks the punch. (Hmmmm there's a pun buried in there somewhere). Antonia

Beautiful study with great colours and lines - perfect exposure control. However, the sense of motion is not so strong as in the previous images. Great shot nonetheless. Regards.

Ginger Ale...my favourite...wherever Ginger is in can make me...mmmmh....

the colour of the strawberries is not the one I would expect...a bit too orange? is it the glass or is it my monitor...

Cheers,
Verena

Hi Hugo! I can't help feeling that the effect of motion would be stronger if there was more liquid in the bottom of the glass. I do like the concept and the colours here. AJ

Jeroen Wenting   {K:25317} 8/23/2005
Nicely executed. Maybe a tad much whitespace on the left, some filling there would be appreciated (but as you're into product photography and this would make a great backdrop for some advertising there would go text there).

Hi Hugo,

Thanks for sharing the technical details and setup. The color, compostion and setup is great, just only the picture tilted to the left.

Good work. Love your artwork.

Cheers! Bobby

Great series Hugo. As always, I admire your creativity and dedication in your process of an initial concept.
BTW, what is the recipe for that mix ? Do you blend the strawberries with the Ginger Ale (I like them both) ?

I was wondering why you didn't crop out the bottom of the image to have the glass resting on the frame? Was it to give the effect of the glass "floating"? I like this series of images, the motion in this one with the splash of the ginger ale against the glass. I can also hear the sound of the liquid spilling into it. I like the mostly colorless look of this with just splash of color-a very effective touch when used like this. Nicely done Hugo, waiting for the next~

a refreshing shot...great idea, and an excellent idea, probably i'd like to see more soda inside the glass.

Neat shot!!! Good colors, clarity and composition... well done!!! A couple of little things: you forgot to clone out a small (grey) spot in the top left corner, the glass you've used is a bit crooked/bent to the left so a different one next time and instead of Ginger Ale... use Tonic water or Spa.... so you don't have a piss-like/brownish color to start with, which you then have to change/adjust the color... just a few ideas.... ;-D!!! Oh yes and wait until there's some fluid in the glass before you take the shot... so you get some other textures/view/floating strawberries... ???

this is a tough one.. hard to capture these correctly.. in advertising they usually use fake food and other techniques to look real...you did a great job with this one for sure.. love the colors... excellent work...

...and you are becoming the Master of PS!
(AND you're honest about it) :)

Hugo de Wolf Hugo de Wolf   {K:185110} 8/21/2005
Hi Lori, Good call! I discussed the tilt at length with Tom Rumland. I did check on any tilt, but the problem is that the glass is hand made, and slightly crooked. Besides, it's slightly tapered, so measuring a vertical won't do any good. Yet I do agree it's slightly tilted ccw.

Weighted as in PS upping the contrasts of the glass? yeah. slightly. Other than that, I did play with the tones of the strawberry and the stream of Ginger Ale. Also had to remove some textures and spilled liquid from surface / background.

Cheers,

hugo

HI Hugo,

Well, you've done it again.
Conceived the idea, and accomplished it.

Very nice photograph. Captured the movement perfectly, and with great detail and clarity.
And creativity.

I sense the glass of strawberries is left 'weighted', therefore the way in which you have this presented is excellent. Some optical illusion going on here? Or is that glass a 'tad' (just a 'tad' mind you!) counter cw?

EXCELLENT presentation and composition,
it couldn't be any better!

GR8 idea and GR8 image,
Lori :)

Hugo de Wolf Hugo de Wolf   {K:185110} 8/21/2005
Hi Pat, you've got a good point there. I did shoot a few with a longer shutterspeed (smaller aperture) but wasn't too happy with those results, mainly because the texture of the background became too strong. If I reshoot this one, I'll have to use a smoother background. Another reason was that I struggled with the hues. The ginger ale looked like piss....:)

Cheers,

Hugo

Hugo de Wolf Hugo de Wolf   {K:185110} 8/21/2005
Thanks, Ursula. I never print with frame, as the edge of the paper will do in most cases. But on the internet, and especially showing it on a white page, I thought it needed a frame / thin line, as the flow of Ginger Ale would've been coming from the void rather harshly, and the reflection of the glass would've had a rather crude cut too. Either way, I did feel ambiguous about it too.

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi Hugo,it works..simply enjoy the fresh and appetizing outcome, and the motion and the drops and foam.Only imho think of no framing...just an idea (if printed).
Cheers,Ursula

I thought the longer exposure would accentuate the fluid movment. Yes, stopping down would have the same effect. I do like the bubbles.

Another excellent piece for the project. I can't help with technical suggestions...I'll have to leave that to the big boys. *grin* But I can tell you that it's a delight to view, on every artistic level. Am eagerly looking forward to the next installation.

Hugo de Wolf Hugo de Wolf   {K:185110} 8/21/2005
Hi Pat, interesting thought. Not sure if it would've worked, as it would reduce the bubbles to a bigger blur and would've lowered the already pretty soft flow of the Gingerale.

In stead of a ND4 filter, I could've also reduce the apperture by 2 stops, or do you think a ND4 filter would've created a different effect?

Your comment does make me think if a PL filter could've worked; the reflection of the flash does nag me a bit here.

Cheers,

Hugo

Hi Jake, The setup was pretty straight forward. A white curved background, ambi-light and a flash with diffuser hood. The settings are all there in the about in this image. Just let me know if you need more info...:)

Cheers,

Hugo
