About After watching more coverage of the horrors that have once again fallen upon Egypt I remembered that I had taken a few shots while in a security convoy on our last visit to Egypt. If anybody thinks the security there isn't top notch (especially towards tourists) think again. Here we're driving through the Eastern Desert in Central Egypt in a convoy of about 15 vehicles. In the front , middle and end were small trucks full of soilders (probably about 10 or so each) all with automatic weapons. The drive from the Red Sea town of Hurghada to Luxor was about 4 hours and we were all instructed to drive as fast as possible which we did averaging about 145 - 160 Kilometers (90-100 miles) an hour. Half way thru we had a near blow out and the driver pulled right over while a truck full of soilder arrived immediately circling the vehicle with guns pointed at the surrounding hills while the tire was quickly changed. The driver, roads, and security were all really great and I for one felt totally safe. It's not photo of the year but just a little slice of modern day travel reality. Second picture below.
