I really would appreciate some background info in your portfolio, Sean. It helps to know when giving a critique whether someone is experienced or new to photography, what your photo interests are, whether you like long walks along the beach... ;)
In strong mixed light or strong back-light situations like this, I crank the camera down to -1 or -2 EV to prevent the highlights (which are the first things the eye darts to) from blowing out, as they did here. Overexposed highlights are not salvageable, whereas you CAN boost the underexposed areas to reveal the details.
Unlimited FREE film is a digital concept that still thrills me, so if I take 250 photos on an outing, and end up with 2 or 3 keepers, I feel I succeeded.
I really like the sense of movement & stillness all at the same time here Sean! I really like the lighting here as well; on the edges and then the back lighting of the flower itself! Well Done!
