About Taken from Inspiration Point in Yosemite National Park. El Capitan is on the left, Half Dome in the distant middle, and Bridalviel Fall on the right.

I'm posting 3 similar images -- there are aspects of each that I like. Which do you prefer?

Taken with red #2 filter.
PS = minimal brightness and contrast adjustments.

Dear Naomi,

Being inspired by Ansel Adams provides difficult path to follow and I want to tell you I like very much this digital photo. You should try a larger size camera and I am sure it would be even more dramatic.

Great job indeed

Mignificient B&W. Out of the famous place, the moment-lighgt shot you've choiced are very interesting. Compliments. By by Marco.

Naomi, if you have PS I would recommend the channel mixer: Image > Adjustments > Channel mixer (check the "Monochrome" box, and play with the red / green / blue sliders. For a red filter effect, increase red, and decrease green + blue the same amount (the sum should be about 100% again).
Or you could use a (free) PS plugin from Johny Akerlund, called Johny?s B&W, from jakerlund.net or via google search.
Or, if you come from film and like a "wet darkroom" feeling, very good is another ($$$) plugin for PS, called "Convert to B&W Pro", from theimagingfactory.

Regards

Carsten

I think the exposure in this one is much better, and the perspective compression due to the long lens adds a lot of impact.

I don't think the inclusion of the branch/bush on the lower right corner adds much to the image. Maybe it could be "burned in"?

Thanks Carsten for commenting. You made good points re: shooting color and converting to B&W. I looked at your portfolio, and you seem very talented in the digital darkroom. Any tips for converting to B&W? -- Naomi

Imageopolis Featured Photo Critique This would be my favourite, without the little bush in the right corner, perhaps. There is so much drama in the sky that I would love some more contrast there. It is more advisable to shoot color and convert to B&W afterwards, IMO. The G2 makes a simple desaturation, you have much less control shooting straight B&W, and you get a jpeg, not a RAW (right ?). Anyway, a majestic landscape, I like it very much !
