About Some horses having fun on the Texas range. The one in the back snorted and the rest over to the left about 20 just bolted and ran. Never seen that before it was quite a powerful moment, being a northerner and all. This was by the highway on the way to Bastrop Texas.

Thanks for looking.

great capture! the interaction of the horses and the horse in the background make this a very intersting composition.

Thanks James, there was a nasty barbed wire fence, BUT, given your comments what lens would you suggest to get the impact you were talking about. I have a 90 a 50 and a 28mm. I shot that one with the 50. I am playing with the idea of getting a 35mm. After all of the fine shots of horse's you have, thanks for your time.

Nice picture that captures the social nature of horses. It's also very nicely juxtaposed against that broad Texas sky.

I know these shots are hard to set up and you have to get what you can with what you have but...as a critique...perhaps a Neutral Density filter would have allowed you to open up a bit on the horses while retaining the contrasting sky elements.

You may also have been able to get a broader feel by backing away from your subject some. As it stands, we see the horses together but don't get a really intimate feel for them. On the other hand, we also see the broad horizon but don't get the full impact. If you had gotten closer to the horses or backed away from them I think you would have gotten more "bang" for your effort. Don't get me wrong...it's a very good picture. I'm just offering these suggestions for the "what could you do different" thoughts they might provoke.

The area around Bastrop is really nice. If you get a chance to go to Groene or Boerne or Fredericksburg you really should go. The Hill Country is my favorite part of Texas!
