I don't find the brights to be too bright. I just find the photo to have quite a range of tones. Altogether, I think it's very effective. Nicely done.

John, This is very lovely, with excellent composition. The bright spots are just a little too bright. Have you tried shooting these scenes, with bright highlighted areas, with your camera in the 'snow' or 'beach' mode? I have no idea what effect this would have on the shadow areas. Just a thought.
