Wow this is a really great macro Christine! The color is so vivid. Do you process in Photoshop or brighten the color range in the camera settings? Very nice.

Wow this is a really great macro Christine! The color is so vivid. Do you process in Photoshop or brighten the color range in the camera settings? Very nice. I attached some grapes from the Vianza winery I shot recently. I need to get in closer next time.

Absolutely Beautiful shot, Christine. The light from behind make them so translucent.

Hehe-- I'll start printing up the membership cards, Petal-- hopefully I won't suffer from shaky hands like I do on so many of my long exposure shots!

I looked at my comments and saw that they all appear twice. This has nothing to do with my age (I was tested for an insurance program and found mentally intact LOL) but the system, when I want to check what I had written and click on the "Preview" bar, has already committed my writing to papar. Being beyond 75, I think you desrve to see me also the way I looked when I was in my late 30s and I attach a photo of myself. It was taken in Sinai, before we returned it to Egypt as part of the peace agreement with that country and you can recognize me by the green shirt I'm wearing.
Note that I'm carrying a camera case. My camera, with which this photo was taken, was in the hand of another. I think it was a later Asahi Pentax model.
Best regards,
Rafi

Dear Christine,
You may join the club. I hardly ever have a tripod with me, except perhaps either a very little one that I can carry in my pocket or a big when I go abroad and might have to take photos in dark places or in the rare instances I take photos at night. I admit that I may lose some good photos that way.
Be that as it may, in the days before I had a ring-flash 9and was much younger)I relied on sunlight and in any case it's the result that counts and in the case of your berries, the result was excellent. Do not, however, give up the idea of a ring-flash. For one thing and I don't want to be ironic, it weighs much less than a tripod and at my age (beyond 75) that's an important factor. Another argument for the ring-flash versus the tripod is the situation in which you want to capture an object, especially a flower, that moves in the wind.
Keep up the good work, with or without a ring-flash or a tripod.
All the best,
Rafi

Hi Rafi-- thanks for your comments. I took the picture using existing light. I had noticed just this clump of berries in a patch of sunlight, and loved the glow they had. Didn't have time for a tripod (aw, face it, I'm too damned lazy to use one anyway), so just braced my self and shot it...about 20 time ;) this one is the sharpest (handheld at 1/60 sec). I looked at getting a ring flash, and probably will in the future-- a bit too pricy for me at this time... but definatly on my wish list! thanks again!

Wow! this one must have been taken against a strong light source to achieve the translucent effect. Did you use a (ring) flash or just the sunlight? I use the ring-flash a great deal and regard it as one of my most important accessories.
Thank you, dear Christine, for your very kind comments on my "Blue bubble" and my "Ex wineglass." In creating the latter I used several filtes and as far as I remember, "glowing edges", one of my favorite filters, was among them.
Best regards,
Rafi
