About Subject background: I couldn't resist to upload some "kitsch lorraine". Interesting enough as I definitely wanted to go for a desaturated Fadel style version... but my Fadel filter won't work this time ;-) Hope you don't mind.

PS concept: some layer work for the sky and the foreground. Channel mixer for finishing the sky.

Honest feedback highly appreciated

It's nice landscape,Thilo.

Extremely green grass in middle seems unreal,
since there is no Sun light (or any light source) in the sky.

Good composition.Nice sky, and red house is good detail.

Anyway,in general it's fine work.

Best regards!

Hi Thilo,
I think this work has a better feel to it than just "Postcard". I wouldn't underestimate this style because on looking at it a few times, you seem to have captured a sort of surealism that might be over-looked at first.

Hi Andre,

I know very well what you mean with Disney like ;-)

Don't worry: This is just a small excursion into the fields of postcard Photoshopping. I need to do that sometimes to learn new techniques. And then I want to upload the stuff even it's not the way it's meant to be ;-)

Hi Thilo,
You must be in a very sunny mood today. This has a great positive feel to it! I hope you are not insulted when I say that the image, especially around the farm buildings almost has a "Disney" like feel to it. I don't mean this in anyway negative at all because it brings back memories of when I was a child and those Disney movies were so soothing to watch. All you need in this one is a couple of those animated little bluebirds flying around over the fields. :)
No doom and gloom in this shot at all ;)

Excellent work with the sky, Thilo.

A real bucolic countryside picture. The greens and blues are beautiful, and accentuated by the white clouds and splashes of yellow.

The red roof makes that building stand out and you have placed it in an excellent place in the frame. The horizon is just under halfway up, but this works for me.

Minor gripes are the gray patch on top right (vignette? Probably a gray cloud...) and an imagined lack of fine detail.

Hi Pankaj,

okay, here you go:

1. mild usage of the lights/shadows function in Photoshop CS; then go for some noise reduction with Net Image
2. adjustment layer for level (S shape)
3. grey solid fill layer with blend mode "overlay"; masking out the sky to bring back the detail
4. grey solid fill layer with blend mode "color brush" (not sure how this is called in English); masking out the foreground to bring back some light in the foreground
5. duplicate the background layer, blend mode soft lights, then used a high pass filter to get more contrast/sharpness. Opacity 50%
6. saturation layer with some tweaking on blue and yellow
7. Finally a channel mixer layer, masked out the sky, blend mode soft lights. Changed the channel mixer to grey scales and then R +98%, G +72%, B -52%. Opacity 44%.

That's it ;-)

Hope that helped.

Great landscape. I love the house as it brings it just a bit of red tones. This really grabs the eye into the frame.

Excellant composition, I particularly like the partially hidden church over the horizon. Make you want to go over the hill and see what's there. The sky is a nice complement but muddy yellow tones in the middle are not to my taste. Come see my "Path" series I'm statedg on Monday. I would welcome your comments.
