About Pink (Major Mitchell) Cockatoos are birds of the semi-arid and arid zones of all parts of Australia, except Tasmania. Major Mitchell?s Cockatoos feed on seeds, fruits, nuts and tubers from a variety of native plants, especially Acacia (wattle) and Callitris species.
This is possibly the most beautiful of all cockatoos. There is nothing more stirring than seeing these birds in their natural habitat. Radiant in the setting sun, they are a sublime mixture of subtle salmon pink, with bleached white wings and crowns and brilliant scarlets and yellows on the crest. Unfortunately, the call is nowhere near as attractive, being described as an unmistakable stuttered, quavering, falsetto cry.

They sure are beautiful, Mistral, and this photo has captured many of those beautiful details very well.

I love the soft lighting and the way the lovely colours have come through with great details in the feathers.

Thank you very much for your visit and comments!

fantastic portrait of what i must agree is Australia's most stunning cockatoo, beats the galah and sulphur hands down. mind you the two blacks aren't that far behind in the looks department

Nicely cropped, although there is a bit of unnecessary black space on the right. I'm wondering what would happen if this picture was taken vertically, instead of horizontally, leaving a bit of black space at the top and some of the tree's trunk on the bottom.

The colors are indeed beautifully captured.
