I do also Mary.... had a lot of problems trying to get rid of the glare to the right of this image & George has managed it well )
It's such a nice view of the Priory...shame the glare effected it in such a way.
Thanks for your comment. Sue xx

Interesting play with light ans shadows. I must say, though that I like Georg's revision showing more detail. Mary

Thank you George... will give that a try sometime ) Sounds like a very handy tool in PS. Have tried the curve tool for this image... but with no great success.

Hi, Sue--Since this is an ongoing problem I seem to have with exposures (blown-out highlights), I've had some practice making corrections, especially when it's such a pretty scene as you have here. I think the best tool in PS-CS is Image>Adjustments>Shadow/Highlight. Choose "Show more options." You can tame the highlights a bit by moving the amount slider to the right. Then fiddle a bit with the Radius and Amount. You also can tweak the shadow details in the same way with the other control. If you don't a version with these choices, Levels or Curves might do the job but with not as much control. Changing the contrast is probably not a good tactic. I am trying to learn to expose for the highlights (or at least the mid-tones) when shooting a scene like this. Otherwise the meter averages it out, and the result is overexposure. It's a hard lesson, and so I just keep trying. Hope this helps. --g

Great improvement... the original image was very bright... tried to tone it down a bit with out a great deal of success... I still wanted to post it on here though because its such a great view of the ruins... maybe should have posted it in the 'photo help' category.
Did you just change the contrast on this photo? Would be interested how you managed to get rid of the glare.
The original is attached. Sue xx

Very dramatic, for sure. The range of contrast is just too much, though, for the exposure. I couldn't resist trying to get more detail out of the highlights. Hope you don't mind. Best regards, --George
