It is all a matter of preference of course, and I and I can see how a puppy in particular should not be rendered with too much contrast (just like a child or baby). Monitor calibration is an issue I am trying to cope with, but there is variation in printing too - I use two different printers (frontier-type) and one is very faithful to what I see on my screen, the other punches up the saturation and makes my b/w prints darker than I like (guess which one is the more expensive option :-)

Thanks for the option Stefan, although I think there is too much contrast in the version you uploaded... looks like there are many extremes now. On different computers this image comes across differently... at home the original seems good, but when I go to work, our at my parent's, it looks really dark. I guess as long as the print turns out okay that all that really matters! Thanks again!

Frankly, i prefer the original post. The bright background and foreground flower makes it a difficult edit, but one way to go about it is to focus mainly on the dog.

Just because it's been bothering me that this image is so dark, I thought that I would upload the "fixed" version... brightness & contrast levels played with. Thanks Paolo for bringing that to my attention... And thanks to all the people who have commented so far!

Bet she was thrilled when she saw the pictures! Of course she would have lots of formal portraits taken of her dogs at dog shows, but these portraits capture their playfulness and character! Would you please tell her that even cat fans adore her puppies ;)

Hi Arwa, Thanks so much for the comment.. I have never tried large format photography.. too large and scary for me right now, but you are right... it would look great large format! These pictures were taken at a breeder's house... I emailed to see if I could visit when she had some puppies around so I could practice shooting more dogs. It was a wonderful experience!

Beautiful and tender portrait! excellent framing with the blurred flowers in the foreground and background! I never thought about large format cameras but when I saw this it felt that it would look even better in larger frame! Your puppies are gorgeous! Are you a breeder?

Paolo, thank you for pointing out that it was a bit dark... an easy fix in PS, but something that I didn't notice myself. Thanks for the comment.
