About One hand had been toiling in the garden, the 4th generation had been playing on the rug - here, they met for a moment of quiet solitude before breakfast.
I tried this in black and white and something just didn't fit - the softness of the skintones just didn't come through. Any suggestions?

Hey Mike! I've been in and out of the house lately, so I haven't had a chance to post pics or catch up on comments, but wanted to say thanks! I'll check it out!

maybe the background could be darkened to make the hands pop more. I am not sure but I like the hands very much and the title is great. even the side light and the color tone is great. If you decide to darken the back ground I hope you will let me know so I can check it out.
should get a 10

che bella fotografia.........
favolosa....un momento magico di tenerezza
istanti intimi che segnano l'anima...
che danno un senso a tutto....
che danno la forza per affrontare tutto...

ANdrea I do like this, such a precious moment. I think this will be one of those treasured shots. As regards BW I don't know how you change, I had a go desaturating with hue and sat, rather than desaturate - see what you think.

Andrea, I know you said that you are a novice to digital, but personally I think that if you shot this with film, you would get the tones you are looking for.
Dont know if you have a film camera, but if you do, give it a try sometime. You can play with the exposure on film to get results that you wouldnt get on digital.
I shoot all my stuff on film and get good results from it.
I do like this shot, the relationship between the hands and the DOF.
Good luck and keep on shooting.
