About I was down in Paignton today, taking some services, and some kind folks from the church took us out to dinner at a nice hotel in Brixham. After lunch, Carole said she would like a walk, so we were dropped off at a car park just out of Brixham and walked all the way round to the other side of the harbour. There were loads of photo opportunities ~ reflections of steep banks of house, the lifeboat, the replica of the Golden Hind, fishermen, yachts, etc., etc. But I had forgotten to bring my camera ~ in fact, EITHER OF THEM!!! As we walked round I was checking off all the shots I could have taken ~ there were at least 49!! But I came home with nothing!! DOH!!

So, I?d like you to critique my one image of the day on matters such as composition, overall sharpness, depth of field, framing, etc. Do your worst! After surviving missing all those shots I can take almost anything!!

Best regards to all,

David Bayleaf

Wonderful picture, great composition, superb colors and great catch!

Not only you missed something on that day but we also missed all that wonderful, beautiful pictures which you described in your story in about. I liked this theme of putting blank white pictured nicely framed.

This same kind of picture we use to speak about in our art college, about artists in exhibition. e.g.

One artist put a blank canvas nicely framed as you've done, in the big exhibit with other great artists paintings, then he stands nearby, every passing by person (Mr. X) really wonders what is it, then one person out of extreme curiosity ask to the artist, "What is it", Then Artist smiles and replies to him "It's about the cow who was eating grass."

Mr. X: "Then, where is the grass?"
Artist: "Cow ate all of the grass." smiles.

Mr. X: "Then where is the cow, who ate the grass?"
Artist: "You just missed her, she went away to find more grass."

Thanks for this wonderful sharing of yours. A good change.

Clever!

Thank you for the congratulations on my shot taking Best Color Photograph. The image itself is in my portfolio if you care to see the shot in detail.

LOL

Love it, I hate it when that happens - but when you have TWO cameras well there is just no excuse lol

Great work, super about and still rolling on the floor laughing at the categories ... particularly the infrared

Best wishes,
Steve

Hi Gokhan,
I realise that this wasn't a totally original idea, but then what is?! I've seen plenty of blank pictures in my time, so Baki's wasn't exactly the first!!
Actually, it was my wife who suggested I made such an image and she had never seen Baki's upload, so I felt quite happy loading it up.
Best regards, Chris

Is anyone else seeing Waldo in there? I think he's behind the elephant (or is that a horse?)

I still think this is one of your best... truly ART.

Great framing job with the gradations of colour. The yellow lettering stands out very dramatically against the white background. This is one of those pictures that leaves a lot up to the imagination. You're just trying to get your friends to think creatively.

Chris, about that auto white balance.Did You end up with a 2005 BMW D-70 in white?

I always end up with a 66 VW in gray!BLAH!!!
I'll have to upgrade My camera! Take care Mr. Snapper!!! Your Friend,Johnny lottapoopie!

Mark Kresl Mark Kresl   {K:9434} 4/25/2005
Chris, as a fellow D70 user, I often struggle with the white balance as well. The polar bear in the blizzard is a great concept, but I'm afraid you let it wash out just a touch. Hopefully this will be a learning experience.

All of my thoughts regarding the technical aspects of this fine shot have already been mentioned. However I am very concerned about the onset of senility with you Chris. Having one camera and forgetting it is excusable - but TWO? I'd get a check up.

Now there's another thing I didn't think of, Mike!!
In fact, if I'd stop to take all those 49 pictures we'd never have got to the end of the walk so who knows how many of them I would even have seen!!!
Thanks for pointing that out! )

Do realise that if you did have your camera, you might have gotten to, oh about 5 of those oppotunities in time to catch them the way you saw them.. You will always remember those lost oppotunities as they are now, so which is better??

Strange you should mention the 'white balance', Mr. 3:16.
I wasn't quite sure which setting I should use, so I finally opted for auto?
I ended up with a car in the picture which I had to clone out!!

I think some joker's going around faking your name on people's comments! Look down the list of comments on this page an you'll find he's going around saying things like, 'I prefer the frame to the photo.' Obviously some lunatic posing as my good mate from Japan! Bad sport! I'll write to Altaf! )

I think this is a little lacking in detail, Chris. But it's quite the smoothest "bokeh" I've ever seen. And it;s one of the rare shots of yours where I prefer the frame to the photo. My recommendation to you is get a mobile phone with a built-in camera. Then you'll never be without!

Hey Mary,
Thanks for your positive and helpful critique!
I'd have replied a little sooner but I had to look up the word 'obfuscation'. It wasn't in my exhaustive Oford Dictionary, so I checked it out on the net and found that it's a Latvian that means 'obscured by pork fat'.
Anyway I just wanted to say how much I appreciated you baring your heart to me in that way!
Best regards,

arwa abdullah   {K:34415} 4/24/2005
You can consider it a test trip!
You went there to explore good locations imagined different compositions!
Checking out the elements and perspectives
You went there without your camera intentionally to check out the light and the most favorable ones at tat time to come back again

actually you haven?t forgotten your cameras, your subconscious mind deliberately did this to you, so you can take the best images when you go back there
Feeling better now? ;)

  0

Mary Sue Hayward   {K:17558} 4/24/2005
Hmm. The heavy black frame totally overwhelms your subject...in fact it distracts to the point of obfuscation. Dear me. And I'm not entirely sure the horizon is level (hard to tell at this DOF), but perhaps it is my monitor. And maybe, just maybe you should used a smaller aperture...seems a bit washed out.

You might consider removing the lens cap, or even using a lens at all if you reshoot this.

7+++++++++++
