About The nymphal stage of the Acanthacris ruficornis grasshopper. This specimen was about 2 cm in length. At this age the body has an almost translucent quality. Taken in deep shade with on-board flashlight and silver reflector. Cropped to fit the square format.

Hi Peter - I found that people often exaggerate to emphasisze a point and in the end they are splitting already split hairs. Their is always a trade-of, yes you may loose sharpness (depending on the quality of lense) but what you gain in DoF and clarity more than make up for it and creating a much better effect overall. 90% of the success of a photo in my opinion lies in the perception of the image as a whole, which should be more important than sometimes barely visible technical qualities. In the end we percieve the image with the eye and analyse it as a unit in the brain. Thats just my opinion. Kind regards.

Fine grasshopper close-up Joggie! The sharpness is outstanding. I was told a while ago that very small aperture would give very great DOF, but there would be sharpness and quality loss.I saw your last few photo's and there is certainly no quality or sharpness lost!

Hi Riny
No tripod, this was handheld - fortunately it was close to ground level and I could steady myself, although in a quite peculiar position. (At least one of my neighbours think I am mad!).
Kind regards.

Superb macro work, the detail and sharpness are astounding! The colours are very lifelike and well saturated and the antennae, although chopped off give you a nice diagonal.

Thanks
