that's a nice shot but in my opinion you should have exposed 5.6 or 8.0 fstop. outside of window should have been more stable than this. and face of grandmother could have had much more contrast. forgive me but you should have been careful about space above the head.

This is an excellent portrait and I know your grandmother is pleased. On my monitor, there was a bit of a purple hue. Not sure if that happened during scanning or if you added this on purpose? I pulled it into photoshop and cropped just a bit to bring more attention to your grandmother's face. I then adjusted the levels just a bit to lighten it up and lastly I used the channels option to make it a true B&W. I took the red channel down just a we bit and added a bit to the green and blue. These are just some suggestions. I hope they are useful.
