I like the pov in this image Jim! I also like the ripples and reflections off of them. An excellent shot of this interesting looking duck! :)

Merganser......and don't ever eat one ! Man o man they taste bad. Bottom feeders.

This is ugly duck power with a bad hair day. I don't know the breed but looks like some kind of fish duck. Don.

Jim
Yes they are hard to get shots of ! I am going to get a sack blind to try for better shots this summer.
This guy got too close as I sat behind some railings, at the same place I took the Boathouse Restaurant Photo.
thanks for the comment

Jim, Kerry was part right, it is a merganser, but not the common, its the red-breasted merganser. Looked it up in Peterson Field Guides.
Good shot of the bird.
They are hard to get close enough to get a good shot of, arnt they???

Nice shot Jim... and you're right, it's a merganser of the "common" variety, but a very nice pic of him all the same,

Jim, I think it's a type of loon in spring plumage. Great shot. We don't get these in South dakota but I have seen them plenty in Minnesota. They a great call that you can hear echoing across the lakes in the summer.

Thats kind of what I thought but wasn't sure. Tuff to get very close to the things.
Lots of water fowl on the way through now. Saw at least 30 Trumpeter Swans Saturday too for for good shots. Gotta get a bigger lens after taxes are paid !!

My closest guess would be a common merganser, Jim, but believe me, I'm no expert! In any case you got a nice shot of him! Great to see all these different species coming back.
Dave.
