Carsten, thank you for all of the wonderful input on how I could possibly deal with this problem of the blown out white area. I am not very technical, but will try and figure out what you have suggested, thank you so much for your time and input. Alison

A very nice scenery, the swan and the duck are the players here, and the left part does not add much so I would crop there for a less centered position of the swan. Another point is the blown out whites of the swan, you can`t do anything about that now, I suppose. Maybe there is some detail in the whites if you shot RAW and test an underexposed conversion setting. Scenes like this with wide dynamic range are a problem for digital cameras, because often you don`t catch the whole range from white to black and sacrifice some tones. A possible strategy is exposure for the highlights and a composite technique in the digital darkroom afterwards to dodge the shadows. Another strategy is exposure bracketing, with several shots for highlights, midtones, and shadows, and composite technique to squeeze all tones into one picture afterwards. Ok, I?m picky - a really beautiful image anyway !

Nice capture of the swan nesting. The white feathers are blown out IMO.

What a beauty so bright in the sunshine. Even nicer to look at with the darker background. She even seems to have a pleased expression on her face.
