About Every Sunday, Veterans for Peace sets up this memorial to American soldiers who have died in Iraq. The number of crosses, now over 1100, increases each week. As Veterans for Peace points out, if there were crosses for Iraqi civilians, it would cover an awful lot more of the beach. We each have to decide for ourselves whether it's worth it.

Here is a version without the shadow.

Absolutely awesome. I'd certainly try to remove the shadow. This deserves an award for the content and angle. I love what you're doing with this wide angle lens. Beautiful work, Ken!

You are, of course, correct, Ken. There's no way in camera to eliminate that shadow. Photoshop is the answer as you noted -- use the clone and patch tools (on a separate layer) and a lot of patience. It would be relatively easy except for the tip of the boot. In that area I'd mask off the boot and do it separately. With this image it'd be worth the effort.

Grant, when using a 12mm lens to take a shot that sweeps from the near foreground to the remote distance, the shadow of the camera will be visible, unless shooting toward the sun. If anyone knows a way around this, I'd be interested to hear, because I'd rather it not be there. Perhaps if I had more expertise I could eliminate it in Photoshop.

Speaking strictly from a photographic point of view: The sky is great, the perspective striking and the color (especially the contrasting flower) effective. The shadow in the lower right corner is a distraction, however.

Speaking politically, I hope the V for P don't have to do this for too much longer.

Amazingly moving photo! What a powerful shot - the angle and the meaning behind the shot is incredible. Well done.
