About
3 Savile Row - The headquarters of Apple Records from 1968 - 1972. This is the building where the famous "Rooftop Concert" was performed at lunch time on the 30th of January, 1969 (Get Back - 3 times, Don't Let Me Down - twice, I've Got a Feeling - twice, One After 909, and I Dig a Pony) Most of the concert is at the end of the film "Let it Be" (yet to appear on DVD - what's the deal Paul?) and snipets can be found on "The Beatles Anthology" DVD. The next day The Beatles recorded "the video's" live in the basement for "Let it Be", "Long and Winding Road", and "Two of Us" (all featured in the "Anthology" DVD). A lot of The album "Let it Be"(original title "Get Back") was recorded in this building and a bit of the rehersals for "Abbey Road" started here. After watching some of the lack luster, paint by numbers Academy Awards tonight (was it just me?) I had to remind myself that there was a time when passion, genius, total artistic freedom, and enormous quality ruled and were much more important than celebrity. Those days are long gone (except for a few exceptional bands that don't play the game - at least fully) Scanned off 2 prints on the Epson Flatbed. No PS used.
Reminds me of the simpsons episode where homers barbar shop quertet sing on the roof and leneon says "its been done" any way great shot ill give it a 7
My Dear Honey Child - you got me laughin' AGAIN. To quote Bobby, "I was so much older then / I'm younger than that now" (My Back Pages) - does that get me out of this old folks jam? - Don't ask me WHAT it means - your quess is as good as mine. BTW, don't fret precious one, in a few days I'm putting up a shot of the first barbershop all of the Backstreet Boys got their haircuts at on the same day / at the same time - WOW, that was a loud scream ! (don't jump on your bed like that - you'll break the boxsprings).....settle down, come on now........ (now THAT was a good comeback by the Spazster, I must say)
Yeah, I'd would think whoever is there now would lean towards that type of attitude (if they were really smart they'd charge people to go up to the roof - make a fortune....) But it's Savile Row AKA Snob Row so it's not gonna happen. Glad you liked it - thought I'd throw it in while everybody was "enjoying" the Oscars....(even the great comic Chris Rock was bad - what a bore fest)
great work here Mark. cool building with a lot of history. my friend and i went in the front office there about 5 years ago and asked to see the roof...we were promptly asked to leave!
I don't watch it but it HAS to be better than the Academy Awards...now if they "Triumph the Insult Comedy Dog" (or Ali G.) doing commentary throughout the whole thing it would have been MUCH better...just a bunch of hype....
