About There is a new expressway going in here in southern ontario. MAJOR conflict...in order to put it in, they wiped out a large chunk of the forest land on the niagara escarpment. This is a place that Almost every family in ontario had spent hiking, camping and picnicing etc. The city of Hamilton started tearing trees out from the earth before they even had the governments full permission to do it.
I drove by on the way home from work, and saw this.It reminded me of the pictures i've seen of death camps, bodies in piles on the ground. Even if the government decides not to build the expressway in what was formally known as Red Hill Valley, the land is pretty much ruined now.
The picture maybe technically terrible, but i still wanted to share.

oh, Corrie - i'm so sorry to hear about this! i did spend time with my family there when i lived in TO many moons ago & it was such a beautiful place. It's hard to imagine that some people actually think of events like this as progress. Reminds me of joni mitchell's song "paved paradise & put up a parking lot" - we're really there now. Too sad.

I just wanted to add to this...
I didnt realize when i posted this that it was so close to the anniversery of the liberation of auschwitz, and i mean NO ONE any disrespect. In no way do the death of trees compare to the genicide of human beings of any race, creed, or gender. Im sorry if this did offend anybody, my deepest apologies.

Corrie, very sad! same in the rainforests of Belize, Central America. Where I taught school for a few years. I have family in Ontario, I was born in Michigan on the Canada border. My mum was from the Southern States. That's how I ended up in Texas. Warmly, James

very sad indeed. This kind of distruction of nature is happening in many parts of the world.... we all will be paying for it in years to come.
This picture expresses exactly the way you and I feel...
It is a sad story but do not give up.
Gustav

I think the message you wanted to send with this photo was perfectly captured by the composition and the great tones....
The story though is sad, as we're getting used to nowadays....
Cheers
Maurizio

definitely can see what you are seeing. Try not to give up, they haven't plowed paradise yet.

Very interesting about and a great title to go along with the horrible destruction going on. What a waste. Alison

Kind of sad. May not be a spectacular photo, technically speaking, but it definitely tells a story.
